If you want to reinstall your OS you will need a copy of it from the manufacturer, or use the backup disk that either came with your computer, or the one you, hopefully, burned when you bought the computer.
I have done the proceedure hundreds of times.
A clean install is recomended when you have cluttered your PC to the point to where it is slowed.
Once you have the bootable Disk, please shoot me a message and I'll give you a walkthrough.
Good Luck

Hellow,
get unplug your hard disk get usb to ide or usb to sata cable attach it to another antivirus protected system and scan it. all virus will be fix after scan. replug it to your system. if you are using windows xp follow this after scan:
boot it with windows xp bootable cd repair it by the repair option which comes after press F8.
remmember you must select repair option after F8 thats doesn't lose your data.

If its inspiron 8100 you wont have theoption of ctrl f11 as its older than 2005 when quick restore was added to dells. you will need the xp cd dell can ship it for under 11$ also download audio video network drivers for that model then burn them to cd .

However im able to remove almost all viruses with ubcd4win.com boot cd ( even with remote support= tech can do it remotely)

How to Completely Erase a Hard Disk Drive

Erasing a hard drive is a step that most computer users overlook. Just simply going through your data and using the delete key in Windows does not entirely delete the data. This just simply removes the shortcuts making it not visible to the user. If a person wanted, they can easily use software to obtain the data off the hard drive.

Fun Fact
A study was done and were 158 used disk drives were collected and the data retrieved. The two students found 5,000 credit card numbers, medical reports, detailed personal and corporate financial information, and several gigabytes worth of personal e-mail and pornography on those drives.

Disk Wiping Methods

There are two common methods for erasing data. These are formatting and wiping. Formatting a hard drive will not erase the data on the disk but will delete the address tables making it more difficult for average users to see the data, however, a computer specialist who is skilled can obtain some or all of the data using tools. Disk wiping is a more effective method and basically write over the data with 1's or 0's. The more times the disk is overwritten the more secure it is.

Disk Wiping Software
There are numerous free software utilities out there that will wipe your hard drive. I will recommend two programs and briefly go over them.

Eraser - Click here for download

Eraser is a advanced security tool for Windows that will completely remove data from your hard drive. It has a simple to use interface and uses multiple wiping methods such as Peter Gutmann's paper Secure Deletion of Data from Magnetic and Solid-State Memory.

You can use this program to delete files, folders, recycle bin contents and even free space on a drive. Click here for a quick start guide which will give you the basics.

-You can even use Eraser to wipe your flash drive.

Darik's Boot and Nuke - Click here for download

Darik's Boot and Nuke is basically software you boot your computer into. You can load the software into a floppy disk, CD, or USB stick if supported by your computer. Once you boot into the program, you select the wiping options and it will do the work. This is an effective program and I have used it before.

In order to boot your computer to the software you will first need to load the software on the media(usb/cd/floppy) described above then insert the media into your computer. Turn off your computer and as it is booting up you want to go into your computer BIOS. Usually, it will tell you what to press to get into BIOS during the boot up process. Once inside the BIOS you will need to change your boot order so it boots to the media device first. Once done, exit the BIOS saving your changes and the computer will boot into the media and start the data wipe software.

Tips

-If you are installing a new operating system I recommend you first wipe the hard drive using the methods described above, then formatting the drive for the new operating system. If you are giving away the hard drive or computer, I would recommend you wipe the hard drive before doing so.

wipe the hard drive clean and reinstall windows.

only thing you can do is reinstall operating system.

If you do not know how to do this, take computer to someone who does.
If this is something you do not know how to do, it is too difficult to explain to you how to do in this forum without knowing all your hardware specifics.

How can I completely wipe my wd passport hard drive and start over? there are files and weird backups that i just need to get rid of and totally start fresh but they are protected. help!

With the drive connected to your computer, Open up My Computer, located the drive you want to wipe, right click on it and select Format, you can do a quick format. This will remove all data from the drive so be sure you do not want any data that is on it. This will also remove the WD files that came on the drive as well. If you need these files just copy them to your local disk temporally format the drive and then move them back.

Need to reformat a WD 320gb 7200rpm HD...windows hosing

A memory error is not caused by the hard drive not being wiped, However to wipe this drive formatting it using this command wipes it unconditionally (format C: /s /u)
This will format it at a lower level if you get a memory error check the memmory modules run a program called Pc doctor or amidiag these programs can be found on the internet by using google.com. If this information helped you please use FIXYA as a rating please never use Thanks nice try this will give us experts a bad rap on here and we would not stay around if we keep getting them thanks

Help! everytime i click the drive where my scan disk cruzer mini 512 mb is, a warning "trojan horse" appears. and i cant seem to open it. what should i do?

1st thing would be to virus check the drive and remove any viruses you find, if it does not remove it try using this one it seems to remove everything, we used to use f-secure or norton 2007 but it wasnt picking up or removing half of the viruses we removed for customers. http://www.kaspersky.com/trials its a 30 day trial so download it, uninstall your virus checker and install that one and it should remove anything. PS make sure the switch on the pen drive is set to unlock so u can make changes on the drive. all the best John
