WOULD SOFT WATER HAVE A BAD EFFECT ON THIS MODEL AS IT HAS RUSTY BITS

Hot water heaters are a collector of sediment. The proper care includes flushing out the collected debris through the low side drain faucet. The problem is the faucet is not designed correctly to carry out the needed task. If you are handy... turn off the water and gas or electricity to your water heater. Relieve the water pressure through the temperature/pressure relief valve on the side of the water heater tank. Once pressure is relieved close the valve. Determine if you have a 1/2 inch or a 3/4 inch diameter drain valve hole in the side of the tank where the drain valve is located. The drain valve can be removed with channel lock pliers, an 8 or 10 inch adjustable wrench, or a small 8 to 10 inch pipe wrench. Water will leak out the threaded hole while the valve is out. If everything is closed maybe 2 cups of water will leak out of the hot water tank as you check drain valve thread size. DO NOT take your time checking thread size. After you know the pipe thread size go to the hardware store ( Home Depot, Lowe's etc) purchase a short nipple (1 1/2 to 3 inch depending on available space) and a ball valve (brass) due to the water temperature. You will also need a brass adapter for pipe thread to garden hose thread (male both ends). This adapter goes into the ball valve to allow for the connection of a garden hose. Connect the pipe and valve together using the correct pipe thread sealant and install in place of the original plastic drain valve. Install pipe to hose adapter using thread sealant. With the ball valve in place turn the water back on. Gas or electricity back on. Connect a garden hose to the ball valve. Place the other end of the garden hose in a safe area as hot water and debris will be expelled through the hose. With water on, Gas or Electricity on and the relief valve closed actuate the ball valve to the full open position for approximately 3 seconds then close the valve. Repeat the open and close of the ball valve three times. Observe the debris that emptied out of the garden hose. You may be surprised at what you see. If the water runs clear, disconnect the garden hose the task is completed. You can wait until the following year to repeat the process. Your pipe and valve are now a part of the water heater, they may remain in place. Put the hose away.

How change robertshaw 110-32f

Turn off gas to the heater close water supply drain the water out of heater.Remove pilot tube assembly remove thermocouple/or thermopile assembly disconnect gas at the union and remove from valve. Use wrench that fits the hex shaped nut that holds the aquastat and water heater in the tapping. Usually the wrench size is 3/4" or 7/8" depending on the unit.

Put pipe dope on the male thread of the valve and keep it off the aquastat bulb, and rethread into the tapping.

Replace the ilot assembly being sure it was not damaged when it was remover if it was damaged replace it. replace the thermocouple/powerpile assembly replace the gas piping from the valve being sure to use pipe dope on the fittings and tighten them enough so they do not leak. Do not use teflon tape because it could get into the gas valve and cause problems.Test the gas piping for leaking do a tight test on the meter if possible or test with testing fluid and look for bubbles or use a gas leak detector that sniffs for gas and beeps when it detects a leak

Fill the water heater up with cold water and check to be sure there are no leaks at the thread where the valve is threaded into the tapping. Open a hot water faucet and be sure the heater is full of water.

Light the pilot and turn the gas on set to the temp that is best suited to you..

Size of the exhaust vent pipe on a 75 gallon gas water heater? Is it the same size as on a 50 gallon water heater. Brand is GE, mfg 2008

I believe it takes 4" vent pipe up to 100,000 BTU
BTUs are shown on label side of tank.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Gas-venting-specs.pdf

Does new water heater have power vent? What does manual say?
Are you experiencing vent problem now? When you light a match and put it under vent stack, does smoke immediately get pulled upward? Are furnace and waster heater connected to same venting. Is there dark exhaust stain around vent hood? Does exhaust vent back out of vent hood when furnace kicks on? Are flue pipes stained with rust and white coating? Are vent pipes vertical, or are there level runs? Are the pipes made of galvanized and screwed together with 3 screws at each joint?

Frankly I would double-triple-check any internet answer dealing with possible CO poisoning at your home.
1) Ask local plumber for specific code in your area.
2) Call gas company
3) Post question on pro water heater forum:

How to install a propane system properly assuring that you have the proper flow/pressure to all appliances?

Use the installation manual as a guide to sizing the gas pipe to insure good flow. The issue of pressure requires a manometer and adjusting the gas regulator on the side of the house (or at the tank). Professional plumber or gas company can take care of this for you.
When figuring out the gas pipe size, Do not forget to figure your other gas appliances in. All appliances should be able to operate and stay with in the minimum set forth by each manufacturer. Bosch is likely going to have the tightest requirement. If you do not do it correctly, plan on a cold shower.

I have a 250SX aquastar Bosch tankless hot water heater . It keeps going out on EC code; whats wrong? Also I've been running the unit for about a 9 months without hooking up the condensate dain line.

The 250 MUST have the condensate line connected. EC comes from gas supply problems and CO2 levels not being adjusted. LP units require 3/4" smooth gas pipe or 1" corrugated pipe minimum size. The LP regulator needs to be turned up to about 13 inches of water column and with all the gas appliances on, measure no less than 11 inches of water column. The CO2 levels must be measured by a qualified gas technician with a calibrated (with in 6 months) CO2 analyzer.

Smelling co2 around tank, replaced ventilation but still smell co2? need to see if there is a special way to install ventilation (model # whirlpool fg1f4040s3nov) gas water heater

You may be smelling other products of combustion but CO2 is a color-less/smell-less gas. A water heater should be vented thru 4" vent pipe to either a chimney or a wye which joins it with another appliance and a larger(size must be calculated) connector which connects to the chimney. There can be no reductions in size as you travel toward the chimney, and all pipe must slope at least 1/4"/foot up toward the chimney. Single wall vent pipe can be used unless it is less than 6" from anything flammable in which case type "B" vent may be used with a clearance of down to 1". If all this is correct your chimney may be over-sized or obstructed. Proper venting can be very complicated and technical and takes up most of most installation manuals for any fossil fuel appliance.
