My Panasonic DVD recorder won't turn on after a power out. Another user says that this is common, it may be a burnt diode or a damaged power supply. WOULD TURNING THE POWER STRIP OFF RIGHT AFTER THE POWER...

If the power supply has already suffered the brunt of the surge, it could be an expensive repair, possibly not economical.

Of course, you can submit this recorder to a service centre, and obtain a quote on any repairs/board replacement required, then make a decision afterwards on that basis - yes or no - it's up to you what you do.

Sorry to say the power surge has quite likely destroyed several components in your DVD recorder's PSU beyond economical repair; it would not just be a 'burnt diode'.

However, in the future, if you are worried about likely surges occurring again, you can always switch units off at the power point when you aren't using them (example, overnight when you go to bed or when you go out for more than an hour at a time). This may help prevent expensive damage to other appliances.

Surge protection on your household power (or a surge protected powerboard/strip if that's cheaper and easier to get) is recommended.

Won't turn on?

Hello,

The reason your DVD player is not coming up is simply because the player is not receiving any form of current into it.

The reason it is not receiving the current is simply because the power pack is faulty.

To test if it truly is the power pack of the player;

  1. Open the DVD players cover with the appropriate screwdriver,
  2. You will see a pack that the wire you plug to the current is connected to.
  3. Some are covered in some metallic box, while some are open.
  4. If yours is covered with the metallic box, disconnect the box, cos it will be keyed to the body of the player.
  5. And if it is not, just test the capacitors with a meter reader.
  6. You will detect the burnt capacitor.
To fix this;

  1. Disconnect the power pack from the main board and replace it with a new one and couple it back together.
  2. Turn it on and it will work just as good as new.

Take care

My CURTIS DVD 8017 is not working. The battery

Hello,

The reason your player is not working could be as a result of a faulty power panel or the main board.

To test the panel,

open the player from the bottom with the appropriate screwdriver,

get a meter reader and test all the components of the player,

start with the power pack and the main board to see if any capacitor is faulty,

once you detect the faulty component,

replace the board,

couple the player back together,

plug the player to a power source,

ensure the power source is at the level of current the player can work with.

do not expose to a very high current.

take care.

Won't turn on manually

Hello,

The reason you DVD player wont show turn on a green or red light is simply because there is no power supply entering the player.

This could be as a result of the player being exposed to a very high current and has burnt a capacitor on the power panel.

The best thing is for you to get the appropriate screwdriver,
  1. open the cover of the phone,
  2. get a meter reader and test all the component of the board,
  3. you will discover a part that is burnt,
  4. you will see a power pack that is connected to the main board by a cable or more,
  5. disconnect the cables,
  6. replace the power pack,
  7. couple it back
  8. try to turn it on.
Take care

Power outage caused by bad weather. Afterwards, DVD will not come on...no electrical power seems to be incoming. Help?

Hello,

Due to the power outrage caused by the bad weather. The voltage that got into the player was so high that it affected the power pack of the player.

To fix this, you have to get the appropriate screwdriver and unscrew the cover of the player, you will see a board that is attached to the cable that is plugged to the power source.

Get a meter reader, test the components of the power pack and you will notice the part that is burnt.

Replace the power pack with a new power pack and the player will be in good condition again.

Take care.

No power; no lights will come on. I was watching a recorded DVD and then all of the sudden it turned off and will not come back on.

Hello,

The reason the DVD went off was because it was exposed to a high current and the power pack got burnt during the process.

To fix this, you have to get the appropriate screw driver, open up the cover of the player,

You will see the power pack, if it is covered, open it up and if it is not just go ahead and test the capacitors with a meter reader.

You will discover some burnt capacitors.

Disconnect the power pack, get another power pack and replace the old one, and the player will be okay once again.

Take care

Jvc th-s3 won't turn on...blue light flashes briefly and then goes out

Hello,

from my experience, I think your player is having a power problem. It must have received excess voltage/irregular power supply which has damaged an IC or capacitor on the power board of the player.

Sometimes this excess power supply might damage the player's main board. This is why it is advice able that you use step down for your player, because DVD player don't need excess power as something might be damaged.

To solve this problem, you will be needing a meter. Open the player, use the meter to read the components on the power board as it will help you discover the component that got damaged and you can then replace the bad component.

But if you do not have the knowledge of fixing this problem, you might be needing the help of a service technician.

Take care.

Cyberhome dvr1200 wont turn on

dave727,

C14 & C20 are in fact 2200uf @ 10VDC. C15 is 1000uf @ 10VDC. After reading these posts, I took a closer look at the ps board, and sure enough C20 top is slightly ballooned out. We'll be replacing all 3 with 16VDC caps shortly. BTW, the high pitched whine is from the power supply because it's a switching supply and creates some HV.

Thanks for the input!
