Question about Kodak i1220 Pass-Through Scanner

Open Question

I just got the i1220 plus scanner, and I set up a few custom configurations to suit my scanning needs. However, when I started scanning, the program will start to save the file, but then a few seconds in it will display the message 'failed to format images'. And this only happens with my 'colour pdf' and 'black&white pdf' settings. The black&white document (OCR quality) setting works fine, though a bit slow to save. Are there any possible solutions to this?? Or some way of resetting all the configurations to factory default so I can start over??

SOURCE: Is kodak digital science 3520DP a sorting scanner

I dont think any scanner can do that. The output is raster image and you need to use specific software to 'read' the individual ID number. The location of the ID must be same in all the documents.

After scanning the documents, using additional software, the ID can be captured and files renamed. It can be sorted later.

SOURCE: Acrobat 8.1

Upgrade to Acobat 9.0 Pro. It seems to work in that can scan pages for a document, HOWEVER, adding/appending to already scaned pages for a document seems to crash 9.0. For example, say I scan in pages 1 - 4. I cannot then scan pages 5 -6 as part of the same document--crashes Acrobat.

I think this finally proves the problem is Acrobat 8.0 and NOT the i40 drivers.

Check if the glass is scratched. If the scratches are more, you may need to change the glass. This happens over a period of time.

Turn off your scanner. Exit the Smart Touch program.

If XP, navigate to this path: C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Smart Touch\[Scanner Model]

Windows 7 or 8: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\Smart Touch\[Scanner Model]

Delete the "Sys" folder. Turn on the scanner. Re-open Smart Touch. You will see the Sys folder repopulate in the root folder.

I scanned one size of a page. Why I got the result is two pages including 1 page with content and one page is blank. How can I fix this?

Tell your scanning software to only scan the front of the page. The i1220 can scan both sides of the page with a single pass. That's what its doing (the blank page is the back of your scan).

Go into C:\programdata\ and remove the kds_kodak folder. It may ask you to skip files it can't delete. Just click skip for all of them (probably around 15 files). Then reboot your computer and you should be able to scan.

test the scanner using the scan validation tool to see what errors there may be. also make sure that the length detection settings in the driver is correct as this may also cause a problem, contact the support centre if the issue is not resolved, they can do a replacement for you

Scanner wont scan

Be sure that you have the latest scanner drivers from HP, for your system and OS. Often an easy workaround is to use Microsoft Office Suite document imaging.

The ms program can be found in the tools folder of the suite...Plus is that is almost always works on most any scanner, the minus side is that it creates only a .tif or a .mdi file. To read those, you need to set your DEFAULT program settings to call the Microsoft MSP viewer, typically located C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared\MODI\11.0.

HP has been working on solutions to this issue. Further, HP has LIVE, free support available online, try connect to chat.
