Engine is making oil

An engine does not make oil, but it can spill the oil that should be inside. You could have an oil leak, which means that oil will be leaking from either the front or the rear oil seal. The front oil seal is just behind the crank pulley, the one that drives the fan / alternator belt. If oil is leaking from there, suspect the front seal.
If you have oil leaking from the bell housing, that the the bell shaped metal thingy between the engine and the gearbox. you can suspect the rear oil seal.
If you inspect the engine and see oil leaking from the oil pan under the engine, you have a leaking pan gasket. This can usually be solved by tightening the pan bolts, a whole lot of bolts underneath the engine.
Finally, and this is probably the worst, if you see oil around the breather pipe that goes from the valve cover on top of the engine to the gas intake system, you have leaking compression, that means either the valve stem seals are leaking or the compression rings are finished, and you will have to have the engine overhauled, or at the very least have the cylinder head overhauled.
If the rings are suspect, you will also have excessive smoke out of the exhaust when you drive, especially when you accelerate. Check the exhaust for signs of wet oil.

2001 JAGUAR X TYPE 2.5 petrol awd

How many fans do you have under your hood in front the of the engine between the engine and the front grill ? Sound like you may have two problems an oil leak and a over heating problem. first check the cooling fan or fans and make sure they are working. Second check the valve covers to see if they are leaking oil onto the engine or exhaust.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L, oil leak ontop of engine, around and infront of oil fill hole.

Gasket/O-ring bad on the oil fill cap. The fan is throwing it around where you've found the excess.

Oil leak on 2002 chevy silverado 6.0 around oil pan seems to be coming from the front and dripping down the oil filter

Hello....The first thing that you want to check..since you said the leak is in front is the area around the bottom of the crank shaft..If the oil is comming from there...This is where the main oil seal is for the crank shaft bearing...If no oil is comming from that area...you can breath a sigh of relief...There are a lot of stop leak products for everything from radiators to oil systems to transmissions...I'm not a big fan beacuse ...If it can stop a leak...it can stop the flow....The best cure for an oil pan leak is to drain the oil.....Drop the oil pan...replace the gasket...and if you do it right...you'll be good to go for a long time...PS.....don't forget to replace the oil....I hope this was helpful.....PEACE.....

Oil leaking out the front of the lower fan belt

If the lower fan belt pulley you are referring to is the vibration damper or harmonic balancer, then that is the pulley that is attached to the engine crankshaft, and that pulley is what turns all the other pulleys on the engine. There is a seal on the shaft behind the pulley -the front main seal. This is what may be leaking oil, and if that is the case , the seal needs to be replaced.
If it is the front main seal, and you are going to tackle the repair, you need to get a Repair Manual for your vehicle and follow the directions for the fix.

I have a 1995 lumina with the 3.4L engine. I have a slight oil leak and from the looks of the bottom of the car it has been leaking for quite a while. I just bought the car so i wouldnt know. But the oil...

SERIOULSY!!!!! first, go to a car wash, steam clean/ shampoo the entire engine (taking care to avoid directly spraying electricl components/distributor) then drive for about 10 km (6 miles) and look underneath the hood and see where the oil is possibley leaking from. Remeber, oil can leak down from the top and make somethine below it look as though that is where the oil is coming from. Also, the fan air can blow the oil from front to back making the oil drip from all over.
Possible places that oil leaks come front: top = valve cover. front = cam shaft or crank shaft seal if from the rear = could be rear main seal.

I dont know where the oil pump is on my 89 toyota

On a 22RE the oil pump is on the timing cover behind the crank pulley/harmonic balancer,it has the crank timing pointer built onto it,generally they don't leak around the pump seal but as Monster80 pointed out they leak from the front main seal wich is installed on the front of the oil pump, pretty common for the 22R/RE to leak around the timing cover gaskets or out the bolt holes on the timing cover also, usually due to uneven tourqe on the bolts,to check the front main seal you need to look at the the crank from the underside right after you've shut the motor down,if the seals bad you'll see oil starting to form a drop on the backside of the pulley or the front of the oil pump housing.

Leaking Oil from the front

DONT BUY A NEW ONE THEY ARE EXPENSIVE ... THEY PUT OUT VERY LITTLE ACTUAL BTU'S OF HEAT ...IT WOULD BE DANGEROUS TO TRY AND BRAZE ANY LEAK POINTS AND THE OIL IS NOT CAR OIL AND NEEDS TO BE FILLED TO FACTORY SPECIFIED LEVELS. (THESE ARE NOT MEANT TO BE RE-FILLED OR DOES THE OIL USUALLY DIASAPATE). OIL HEATERS OF THIS TYPE USE PLENTY OF ELECTRICITY. I SUGGEST A "HIGH QUALITY, THICK CASED, WITH TILT SAFTY, ELECTRIC SPACE HETER WITH A FAN. THEY HEAT PROBLEM AREAS SAFE AND EFFECTIVELY.
