Question about Inverter Power ,1500W, WESTWARD, 1YAY9

1 Answer

We havve a Westward 1YAY9 1500W inverter which has worked well for a long time. Now it often stops working after 5 minutes and after it has been shut off for a time, will start again. The pump we run is drawing its normal 6.5 amps.

It is overheating. A good test for this is to use a soft gel pack that can be put in the freezer. Use and old towel to wrap the ice pack once and set it on top of the inverter for about 20 minutes. Then use the pump. If it runs longer, the inverter is going bad, and will cost more to repair than to replace. Check all wiring for green corrosion as this can also cause overheating, but the fact that you have the same power draw leads me to a bad inverter. 6.5 amps is pushing a 1500 watt pretty hard, try stepping up to a 2000-3000w Westward.

My panasonic inverter microwave model no NN-T523M switchs off after 5 secondsno matter what setting. the digital screen says consult manual, which has been misplaced

You can find Panasonic owner's manuals here.

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

See if this describes what's happening:
  • Put in time, push start and unit runs for 2 seconds, relay clicks, unit goes off. Cook time on display goes off and clock time comes back. Bad upper interlock switch and charred connector
If so, see http://207.234.249.73/mwd/safety.txt http://207.234.249.73/mwd/disassembly.txt http://207.234.249.73/mwd/doorsw.txt

Otherwise, if the digital programmer circuit / controller does not get a feedback signal from the inverter for a period of 3 seconds, the controller will stop the cook cycle.

If it stops after 7 seconds, it has a problem with the inverter.

It may be a loose connection in the wiring between the inverter, magnetron, and/or control board, or maybe one of those components has failed.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced in inverters, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

I have a 10 year old Magnavox projection TV. The sound has been going in and out after it heats up (about 20 minutes). Is this something I can fix myself, or should I pitch it?

if you got the knack, then follow the speaker wires to the mother board. Buy a dust off can and turn up side down(cold spray) and start spraying a little area at a time till you get it to work . Zero in on the bad component! Simple trick, doesn't always work ,but what the do yu havve to lose!

Please rate!

The oven stops partway into the set time, and doesn't heat.

If it stops after 22 seconds, that means the controller has detected a problem, usually a problem with the inverter, controller, magnetron, or a bad connection from one or the other. In most cases, this is a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron.

Microwave shuts off after 3 seconds

Although your model number doesn't seem to show up, the NNS950-series units are powered by an high-voltage inverter. And yours has failed. While an inverter (switched-mode power supply) is more efficient from a power consumption standpoint, it is more complex, thus more statistically prone to fail. These should only be examined and worked on by someone who has the necessary technical qualifications. Seriously. Often the machine-soldered connections in a microwave inverter are too weak, so they eventually fail, especially if heat is high in the area. They sometimes fail catastrophically. When not catastrophically damaged, you may hear clicking or squealing and may smell an electrical odor, which is sometimes obscured by the cooling fan. Sometimes a whole new inverter is cheaper than the time and labor required to fix the old one. If a technician is willing and able to troubleshoot and repair the inverter to component level, it will may be expensive, but may be worth it, especially if he or she will resolder and reinforce connections as needed as part of a thorough repair. That could easily make your inverter beter than a new one! You might be able to get some verbal estimates if you call Panasonic-authorized appliance / microwave repair shops and ask then specifically about inverter component-level repair and simple inverter replacement costs for your exact model number.
