Question about Bosch 24 in. SHX46A05 Stainless Steel Built-in Dishwasher

Open Question

I have a Bosch SHX46 which keeps tripping the circuit breaker. It trips the circuit breaker with the bottom of the dishwasher full of water. I remove the water by hand and reset the circuit breaker, but it seems to trip and the same time in the cycle. I believe that this model has two separate motors, one for dispensing water, and one for draining. Could this mean that there is a problem with the motor that drains the dishwater?

At what point in the cycle is it tripping and is it tripping a circuit breaker or an RCD? An RCD detects a short/leakage to earth and will have a TEST button and a reset switch/lever. A circuit breaker trips when there is a short between hot/live and common/neutral and will only have a reset button.

It seems to happen at different times, because sometimes the dishwasher liquid gets dispenced and sometimes it does not. It is tripping the circuit breaker which only has the reset switch.

SOURCE: dishwasher is "tripping" the breaker & not draining.

I had the same problem with a Hobart AM8 passthru dishwasher. The electrician determined that some of the wires had become exposed and were wet, thus shorting things out and tripping the breaker.

it trips the rcd to prevent electrocution and acts in nano seconds besides being a circuit breaker for excessive current
the trip can be from moisture allowing a current leakage to ground or some other simple operation
I suggest that you get in a qualified electrician / bosch service technician to find the reason for the problem rcd

Has the circuit breaker / fuse in the meter box tripped or blown as well? If the machine tripped or blew a fuse, it is common for the heater element to be the cause or you have a water leak internally and its shorted something.

Circuit breakers do fail. You could swap a different 15amp breaker from another circuit to test this hypothesis, or just swap it with a new one. At least this way you'll know it isn't a power supply issue.

Bosch AE-9.5 keeps tripping the reset

All resets and breakers trip with high heat.
Do you mean the tankless unit is tripping the 40 amp circuit breaker?
Or the thermal cut-out, located on unit, is tripping?

Is this a new installation?
Or was the tankless working before and stop working?

Copy following link to check wiring.
AE 9.5 requires 40 amp breaker and 6 gauge wire.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-Tankless-electric-water-heater.html

If the unit is tripping the thermal cut, -out, then product manual says to call Bosch or service technician.
Call Bosch 866-330-2729
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Bosch-Powerstar-AE3.4-7.2-9.5.pdf
Thermal cut-out can trip if water flow is too low.
Try changing power selector screw from Hi to Lo so only 1 element is ON. See diagram page 6 of manual.
Adjust the 'outlet service valve:' The manual recommends that a ball valve be installed between hot outlet and faucet. Adjust the valve so more water flows to faucet.
Remove aerator, clean aerator, don't use low flow restrictions or low flow shower heads, replace leaky faucet cartridge on single-handle faucet.

I don't have specific suggestion for tankless tripping breaker or if that is a circuit breaker problem or a tankless problem.

1) Move wires to another same-size breaker and see if problem persists.

2) Compare amp draw on tankless label with wire size and breaker size amp rating.
For example 30 amp breaker using 10ga wire is rated for 80% of listed amps or 24 amps.

3) If you are drawing full 30 amps, then 30 amp breaker is getting hot. Breaker trips with heat. Older breakers can trip more easily.

4) Before calling service technician, open following link for Bosch troubleshooting steps.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Bosch-Tankless-water-heater.html

5) Be sure to read manual for yearly maintenance requirements.

6) Add a tempering tank for incoming cold water problem.

7) All gas tankless brands can be repaired by homeowner for $330.

Bosch dishwasher shx55m with bottom tub full of water

The dishwasher really shouldn't pass any particles near large enough to clog the drain hose. It sounds more like a mechanical issue. Check the circuit breaker to make sure it's not tripped. See if you can hit a cancel button or something to make it drain. Try to run another cycle. If the computer is stuck or acting funny, trying cutting the power for a while, holding down a stop/reset/cancel button, or running a cycle that you don't usually run. I had this kitchenaid that would randomly refuse the normal wash cycle, but would run fine when you ran rinse only or something, then regular wash and everything would be fine again too. If the line somehow is clogged, there's a good chance it's right where the hose connects to the disposal or drain pipe.

Adam, in order to help you, you must provide me with more info. What size breaker is tripping. What does the maufactor's manual reads about what size circuit it must be plugged into. If your house is a little old you probably have a 10 amp breaker that is tripping. If so than the manufaturer states theat it is recomamded to place it onto a 20 amp breaker. Only switch out the 10 map breaker to a 20 amp breaker if your the wire from the breaker is a 12 gauge wire.
Do not put a 20 amp breaker onto a 14 guage wire because it will most likely melt the insulation due to heat whichwill expose the bare copper wire which could lead to burning your house down.

Dishwasher tripping the circuit breaker

Andy, leave the breaker off and remove the toe panel (bottom panel) from the dishwasher. Remove the cover of the junction box where the cord connection or wiring is made. Look at the wire caps and see if they are not burnt. Sometimes these connections become loose and arch, tripping the breaker. If so, cut the wires, strip a new end and reconnect. Catriver...post back.
