Question about Acer TravelMate 4010 Notebook

1 Answer

My friend's TravelMate 4010 had a serious virus which I was eventually able to get rid of by reinstalling the operating system through Alt-F10. However, the dvd/cd-rw isn't recognized anymore. I tried to update driver and unistalled and tried to reinstall but it still won't correct it. How do I get updated drivers for the drive without having to pay one of the "driver update" software fees?

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

Unfortunately you have to reinstall the operating system. It's the best solution.

If I could be of further assistance, let meknow.

I have alot of viris in my computer i want to remove them and restore to factory settings

Before doing naything as radical as retoring to factory settings, why not try and get rid of the viruses by using a command line virus scanner, which does not install to the hard drive and therefore does not get attacked by any viruses and disabled. I'd recommend Panda or DRWEB...

If you want to restore to factory settings, you need to see if the laptop has a recovery partition on the hard drive that can be accessed at boot. this will restore all the settings

The last option is to reinstall windows using the cd. Go through the install proceedure until you get to the point that it "finds" an existing windows installation and then allow it to repair it

When booting hold down "Alt + F10". Here is a link to the manual for your acer laptop. Pages 79-80 of the manual discuss Acer eRecovery management.

If so, press that key to do a system recovery.
Othewise, you'll have to get a recovery CD or DVD

press the on button and imedetly press ALT + F10 in this order ALT + F10 - ALT + F10 until it goes into recovery mode all the Acers that has 2 partitions have the recovery mode then click on recover to factory defult this will load the factory operating system + driversand applications
