The laptop has a big consumption and you can destroy the power adaptor. Make some measurements before to connect it again( if it is still good)

The Dell Inspiron laptop mains adapter output voltage is 19 volts.
If your adapter has an output voltage of 1.7 volts then the adapter is faulty and you need to purchase a new one.

Dell Inspiron 1721 will not power on,light on power supply flashes rapidly.

First, try and take out the battery and start the computer with just the power adapter. If the power adapter is still blinking, replace the power adapter. If the computer turns on with just the power adapter, replace the battery.

If the battery status light rapidly flashes amber, the battery may be defective. Purchase a replacement battery from Dell.

If the power supply status light flashes, the power supply may be defective. Purchase a replacement power supply.

DELL E1705 model. When connecting AC adapter, even before pressing power button, led in power adapter goes off immediately. Why ? The power adapter is OK. When connected with Battery, no switch-on.

Since the system is not working ion both battery and the adaptor it could be a faulty motherboard.. Call dell @18006249896 if you are in warranty.. Contact local tech if thr\e system is out of warranty....

Battey not charging, red light flshing

Check the power adapter with a multi-meter, the voltage of the power plug that plugs into the power socket on the laptop should be slight higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the adapter.
If it is faulty, there are replacement power supplies available on the Internet or at your friendly computer shop.
If the adapter is OK then the power socket on the laptop is faulty or this socket has a dry solder joint connection on the motherboard.
You can test this by wriggling the power plug when it is connected to the laptop, if the charge LED flickers and if you hold this plug in a certain position the charge LED stays on without flickering, then the power socket is faulty.
This can be repaired, but requires the laptop to be completely
disassembled. I suggest you get a quote first.

My Dell Inspiron laptop won't power up. There are no lights AT ALL. It worked when I left for holiday. I have bought a new AC/DC power unit: just the same. The green light comes on when I plug the AC/DC...

If the light on the A/C adapter "goes out" when you connect it to the Laptop... then your motherboard is bad.

Your motherboard is "shorting out" the A/C adapter, in which case you will need a new motherboard.

Sorry....

Power port issues as well

Must solder loose connect. Need you take it to good pc tech, or have steady and be electronically inclined.

But, first you check to see if adapter is fully working. The adapters have two current flows, is positive 19 volts, and negative -19 volt. One can die, and the other works. In my case, the 19v that powered my laptop worked. This happened to me twice.

The best way is to use multimeter but this involves taking the adapter apart. The easiest way is test it on another laptop that work correctly. Let the laptop powered by battery stay on for a couple of minutes then plug you adapter in, and if charge light blinks on your adapter is okay.

Laptop must almost completely taken apart, down to the motherboard and loose plug connection should carefully soldered.

Computer will not start

In my opinion, if the motheroard is dead and it is an older laptop, it is now spare parts. BUT first, try another power adapter to make sure that is not the problem. You do not want to replace the motherboard with the same one, you should want to upgrade the MB. But laptops are one of a kind deals where a newer, better MB just won't fit. So after you have checked to make sure it is not something simple to fix, consider a newer laptop.

Dell Inspiron 1501 will not turn back on

Hi Melissa,
The battery is OK, when you press the test button the number of LED that are on indicates how much charge is in the battery.
When you plug the adapter into the laptop there should be a LED on the laptop that indicates that it is on main power and charging.
You fault appears to indicate that you have either faulty RAM (memory) or it is not making proper electrical connection with the motherboard.
The RAM is located on the bottom of the laptop under one of the panels. Remove the panel and reseat the memory modules (take it out and insert it again a few times), the reboot your laptop.
If it still doesn't work remove it and take it to your friendly computer shop and get them to test it in another laptop, if it is NBG (no bloody good) then you will need to buy new memory.
Best of luck.
