Griddle top replacement

well this is different, but sounds like fun. I would just Repair the gas griddle you have. from the sound of it you need to replace the 3 or 4 tstats that control the griddle. If you are in a Metro area you can find a dealer for Robert Shaw and get the parts you need. but you may also start at http://www.garland-group.com/. everything there will be newer but you will be able ask about where the data plate is and then get parts lists. call a small comercial kitchen repair company and ask for help there too.

Seized screws in Stoves 'Range 1000G Gas Range Cooker (LPG)

I let the screws soak for a few days in release oil but with no success. I decided the only way to get the seized screws out was to drill and tap new holes through the hob and into the hob burner mixing tube support flanges. This allowed new screws (stainless as opposed to the standard, chrome plated steel screws) to be screwed into place. Once this was done I then drilled out the heads of the remaining seized screws. This allowed the hob tops to be removed so that the oven thermostats could be changed. The hob screws were then screwed back into place and lubricated with loads of high temp. copper grease to prevent corrosion. I will also remove and re-grease these screws every six months or so to prevent any chance of seizure in future!

A few points to remember: (a) make sure that any holes in the hob top are sealed with something such as a screw coated with high temp fire cement etc. to prevent any possibility of unburnt LPG getting into the space below the hob top. (b) make SURE that you do not drill or tap into anything that could damage the cooker and cause a gas leak or damage any of the gas ignition leads etc. (c) Make sure that the appliance is totally 'gas tight' after doing any work which will disturb the gas connections, and (d) If you don't have gas qualifications and are not sure of what you are doing then get an expert, registered gas engineer to do the work for you. Don't take a chance with gas!!

I've replaced the cam oil seal on my 1998 Neon (SOHC) twice. It still leaks oil like crazy. A neighbor, who is a Dodge mechanic by trade, is confused by this also. Any ideas as to what could be causing...

When you put the seal in, you must pack grease inside the hollow around the inside of the seal. There is a small girdle spring in there that keeps tension on the seal lip. When you tap it in, this spring likes to pop out, the grease prevents this. Also, a good tool is required to prevent deforming the seal during the install.

Can grill be safely converted to griddle on Thermador PRG486GLUS?

http://www.instawares.com/add-griddle-top-2.133-1002.0.7.htm

try this.

If it doesnt fit your specs. then i would suggest u find a thermador parts place and begin to buy the parts for the griddle as replacement parts. find a model of the stove set up that you want and make a list of all the parts that go to the griddle attachment.

My guess is that the reason for the flat "No" on the retrofit was that griddles require a thermostat similar to the one on the oven and broilers do not. So if their is no room behind the face plate where the knob would go then you can't put in a griddle. The other issue might be that the burners for the griddle wont line up with the brackets that are holding up all the broiler burners now. The griddle burner looks exactly like the one from the over only smaller so it has to line up strait where a regular front and back burner have to line up offset. maybe since you have the broiler already that should not be an issue? Then the problem is finding the griddle top it self that is going to be spendy. I think the link i gave at the top is your best bet. good luck.

Simmer plate rusted over

try using a white vinegar/water solution to wipe it off, then wash the vinegar solution off and seal with oil.

You may have to do it a few times to get the worst of the rust off.

If you get to the point of using it, to prevent it happening again, after use you need to clean it off any always finish by wipingit down with an oil soaked paper towel to seal it.

It will get discolored with use, so if you don't have one already
I would advise buying a cover, Viking make a stainless or a chopping block cover.

How to clean electric griddle

Hi there!

When it is warm, use a spray cleaner and paper towel to wipe up the grease.
Wooden or non-stick spatulas make excellent scraping tools to take the worst off first.

Use paper towel to wipe up.

For really stubborn deposits, use an oven cleaner - and cover with plastic film. Check in 1 hour, and clean as above.

Soda Crystals dissolved in hot water are excellent at cutting through grease, but may affect aluminium. They work out cheaper than many commercial products.

Hope this helps you.
