I have windows 7 with avg antivirus full version installed. i am not able to install the latest version of yahoo messenger. when installing, getting error message: "yahoo messenger! is unable to download files for this installation. please check the firewall settings and then try again." i have disabled avg firewall - no go, uninstalled avg completely - no go, the windows firewall was already disabled in the system so tried enabling it and try - no go... i know some sort of esception has to be added to the firewall.. since it did not work even after uninstalling avg, then the problem is with the windows firewall.... so any idea?

Lets fix this problem with a remote assistance?By the way if you cant see the icon on your desktop go into the program folder of your c-drive and open the folder of your antivirus.

make sure you have removed all other antivirus software before installing AVG (or any other antivirus software)

try to uninstall AVG, then restart and install it again

i did solve the problem by downloading a lower version

There is a known issue between AVG 8 and Anniversary Edition of Ad-Aware which gives exactly this error, so if you perhaps just got that ad-aware, uninstall it too before trying to reinstall AVG.

Then run the uninstall/cleanup util for Avast because the Windows Add/Remove isn't good for uninstalling antivirus programs. Then try reinstalling it again. If you downloaded the installation package, then it provides the uninstall option. Disable Ad-Aware's Adwatch first! Run the AVG installer. Choose the uninstall option and follow the wizard. When you get to the part to remove user settings, select it. Restart your computer then... Now reinstall AVG using the setup file you got and update it.
Restart Windows twice before you re-enable anything disabled earlier.

Should this not work and you get the same error, that means the original errornous installation is still not out of your system. Download the AVG remover from here:
http://www.avg.com/download-tools
Remove your AVG and reboot to make sure it is not there any more, and try installing again.

Try what it says, "check firewall settings and retry". Disable your Firewall software and try to download messenger again. It should work.
