Question about Computers & Internet

4 Answers

I am on an iMac 10.6.6 with Snow Leopard and Safari 5.0.4. All of a sudden I started having problems with Flash Player, On the majority of the sites I couldn't see images or videos. I uninstalled FlashPlayer, reinstalled it, did it several times. Then I started seeing at the place of images or videos a grey window with written FlashPlayer, then Safari crashed every few minutes. I downloaded the version for Intel and things got better, as Safari was not crashing anymore but I still couldn't see videos or even images. Instead of them I had grey spots with written in white: SHOCKWAVE FLASH. Then I tried to open Safari in 32 bit mode, but no result. When I go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ I never see the logo flashing, now I see NO SUITABLE PLUGIN. So I installed Shockwave Player. In the meantime I got a message telling me I needed to install Adobe AIR. I discarded it several times but as it was continuously coming back I ended up installing it. Now I have Flash Player, Shockwave and Adobe AIR! And I still have the window: NO SUITABLE PLUGIN, if I click on it then I get a question mark! At this point I am completely lost. I had also been trying to recover the whole settings from an old bu but nothing seems to be working and I surely cannot figure out what happened. I also went to an Apple center and they reinstalled FlashPlayer and that's all they could do. Sorry for this long message but i couldn't explain it differently, I hope you will be able to understand something. Thank you so much for your help. Marie-Claire from Italy

  • Thank you for this solution, but I don't want to change browser, I want to go on using Safari. I already tried to use Firefox but personally I don't like it and several things I do with Safari don't work with Firefox.

Why did all this happen? If on my MacBook Air everything is working perfectlywhy does all this happen? Unluckily I am totally unable to set my iMac like the laptop.

I would abandon Safari only in the case Safari would proof itself to be absolutely impossible to use anymore

  • Why are you talking about Internet Explorer????????? I am on a Mac and I am talking about Safari. Sorry but you are not answering my question

  • I am asking a solution for my problem, the answer I got was talking about Internet Explorer!!! Explorer doesn't exist for Mac anymore. I want an Apple expert! Thanks

  • I already did it and in fact it works but I don't have the topsites with which I work everyday and are very important for me and it is slower than Safari. Thank you so much for your answer but what I am looking for is a solution for Safari. Choosing another browser is easy and I can do it on my own, I don't need an expert for that.

  • The answers I got are not what I was expecting. I know I can change browser but I surely don't need an expert to do that.
What I am asking is how to fix Safari with Flash Reader, I know it's possible but I don't know how to do it as I have already been trying several solutions with little result as now I don't get any window with FlashPlayer or Shockwave but the video window are plain white...
I also would like to know where these plugins are located because when I install Flash Player I cannot find it,
    Thanks

Did you try a different browser such as firefox? No more bugs and no more crashes. Lots of addons and better than Safari.

Hi!
This problem is common with iMAC having a safari browser in their system.

here is what you need to do:
1. Go to Applications, and on Safari...right click / control+click, and choose " Get Info "
2. Look for the check box entitled " Open With Rosetta ". If this is checked, " uncheck " it, or vice-versa.

After that, try reinstalling again Flash Player.

Let me know if you want me to help you further.
If this answer is very helpful, please do accept my solution.
Thanks for consulting Fixya.

Try Google Chrome. It sounds like there is a bug between either the Flash player or Safari, or even both. With Chrome it downloads the lastest version of Flash and all the needed plugins for you automatically. You can even import and backup all your bookmarks and settings.

Internet explorer can crashed too and once it crashed, the only solution is to reformat your computer. Because the windows registry of your computer got corrupted also. Firefox is a portable internet explorer that can not affect the windows regisrty of your operating system.

Hi Martin,

I would recommend going to OSX 10.4 or 10.5 (would be a cheap upgrade) as most apps and site recommend 10.5 as a minimum these days.

Also, go to adobe.com and make sure your flash player and flash web plugin are up to date (may have to get 10.4 for lates upgrades).

Hope this helps!

When I try to use my safari browser with my mac os10.6.1 I receive the following mwssagethat safar i4.03 will not work with my mac os.

If you updated from Leopard to Snow Leopard you should note that safari for Snow Leopard is different from that for Leopard. Do a clean instal of Snow Leopard and that should sort the problem out. Hope this helps
