Re: How to farmat BIOS System, i set to boot from CD but...
A general protect fault is when processor architecture is violated by any of the programs that are running. If it is only occurring when booting from CD, then the drive is probably not supported.

There are several ways to incorporate password protection. You can set the computer to require a boot up password in the computer BIOS. You have to enter the computer BIOS as soon as you turn it on; with a Dell press [F2], with HP press [Esc] and select system configuration. In the BIOS you can set the BIOS Administrator password - controls the ability to change BIOS settings, the computer boot password - when enabled it requires the user to enter the bootup password before the computer will boot, and set the hard drive access password - controls the users ability to access a hard drive.
The next level of password protection is at the operating system level - account access levels, privilege levels, and passwords. Dependent of operating system you can also set hard drive encryption
Take out the battery, unplug it, open it up, and remove the cmos battery. plug it in and boot it, it should say bios password disabled. turn it off, unplug it, and put the cmos battery back in.
This is a general guide and not custom to your specific model. There may be another way that only your model is capable of.
Your going to need the CD that came with the system.
If you did not receive a system disk then you will need to go to Acer or the store you purchased the computer from and buy/request a CD.
When you receive the disk
1. Put the disk into the CD/DVD Drive
2. When you boot the computer it should at some point ask if you want to boot from CD
IF it does not you need to change the boot options in your bios. (When booting hit the reset keys it says to go into bios options, usually the Delete key) Find boot options/sequence. You need to set the CD drive as your boot priority. (Change nothing else, if unsure take it to a local shop and ask them to do it)
3. Select boot from CD when asked. (Usually you got to press a key)
4. Wait for windows to load files to boot
5. At this point you should see options for what you want to do. system restore, repair windows, restore from backup, along with other options.
6. Pick restore from backup, Then select the backup you want to use. (There usually is only 1 to select.)
7. Follow any on screen instruction, as it may say many diff things.
*Please be careful this is major work on a system and if not fully understood should only be performed by a professional or enthusiast.
Before the computer boots press Del key constantly then the Bios screen appears in that change the first boot device priority to CD Rom then exit the Bios by saving the changes. This should help you in recognizing your OS disk...
Hi johnnygriff5
The boot loader files are either corrupted or missing.
To repair this problem, boot with the Windows XP CD-ROM
and choose the option to install. On the next screen, choose
repair to repair your Windows installation. When the repair
process is finished, you will be able to boot back into your
operating system without losing data or having to reinstall
software.
If however this doesnot work then, please perform the following steps:
1. Insert the Window XP installation CD-ROM in the CD drive and boot your PC from the CD-ROM.
2. When the Welcome to Setup screen is displayed, press R to open Recovery Console.
3. Next, press the number key that corresponds to the operating system installation you want to repair. (This is required only when you have multiple operating systems on your PC.)
4. Login using a user with administrative privileges to your system.
5. Next, on the Recovery Console screen type the following commands ie chkdsk then fixmbr and press Enter after each command to execute them.
If you have some more questions, please let me know. Otherwise, please leave positive rating and feedback.
Thanks :)
It depends on what bios the machine has, there are recovery procedures, atleast on laptop bioses. That when a set of keys is pressed it reads the bios image from a floppy or from a usb stick / cd and flashes the bios automatically.
Look online for Bios recovery (find out what bios you have, ami, phoenix, etc and then look for _____ bios recovery)
