Lexmark x1270 : scanner buttons have not responded since installation from new (except page feedthrough) Finally after updating drivers, still no response. What am I missing please in the 'how to do?'

The scanner and copy buttons function only when the printer is connected to a running Windows computer in which the proper Lexmark printer software is properly installed. The copy and scan functions are not available in the "free-standing" mode unlike, for example, higher end HP all-in-ones which can operate independently as copier, scanner, and fax.

These buttons do not work when the x1270 is installed on a Linux system since Windows is required. At this date the Lexmark site provides software for Win2K thru Win7 and no Linux or Mac. Information for a Linux install can be found searching online and I have done so. I don't know about Macs on this.

Hi I used the link that you provided and entered the Z33 lexmark printer but the 2nd page requires the following and it does not have an option for Windows Vista which I am using Select Your Operating...

Choose the XP drivers, they should still work if Vista ones are not available. If they do not, then Lexmark will not be making drivers forward for that model of printer and it'll be time to go get a new inexpensive inkjet.

Work with linux os

Only Microsoft Windows and Mac are supported by lexmark. Lexmark I'm sure is possible to get working with linux but lexmark doesn't directly have linux support.

X5470 with Linux

First: Shouldn't you have addressed you comments to Lexmark?

This is a site where questions are answered by people from all over the world - I doubt that there is anyone answering questions here who works for Lexmark.

Note: I totally agree with you on the fact that manufacturers should produce Linux drivers - but here's the rub - there are so many versions of Linux that a manufacturer would need to write so many versions of a driver that it would be uneconomical. It would be much easier if there were fewer versions of Linux (at least only a few core versions - say Debian and RedHat only) rather than every version of Linux requiring it's own software and drivers etc.

And yes it would be good for Manufacturers to release the code to anyone who asked for it - but where is the Commercial Security in that?

I like Linux - but I think it is about 10 years away from being a mature and user friendly Operating system. The primary need for Linux programmers is to start using Standards when developing their OS. Think of this problem as an analogy - It wouldn't matter what size or design wheel was created if it used the same axle bearings and hub as everyone else. It could still be put on the cart and used.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Printer lexmark 7300 needs to be installed on puppy linux

I think the best bet to find a Windows Vista driver is to go to http://www.lexmark.com.

At the top is a drop-down that says "Drivers & Downloads". Under that select "Driver Finder".

On this page it gives you a few options, but there is a box that says "Search by Model" above it. Type X7350 in this box and it will find what you need. You'll have to select Vista after this, but it should be easy from there on out I think. The X7300 and X7350 are the same series, and so the same driver will work.

Hope this helps!

There is no linux driver for this printer for those asking about a linux driver.
