Swearching noise huh?? No letters, bios check or anything when it powers up? It could be the hard drive.

I force removd keyboard witht shutting down the PC n the laptop shutdown. Since then screen only shows a milli-seconds deem light. DVD rom light blinking. Fan not turning, only a blinkin green light.

This is a very common problem with windows laptops. This may or may not help but here goes. unplug power. then unplug battery from laptop. Now plug only power cord into laptop. Now turn on and start tapping the F2 fuction key. Once it goes into bios make sure that your boot order is cdrom first. Then save it and reboot with the bootable cd in the drive.

Also if now of this works unplugged Hard drive and see if it will boot up at all and into the bios setting. If you are not able to boot into the cmos make sure also that no cd is in the cdrom drive.

Take your time. Good Luck.

Laptop wont boot

You have to get to the BIOS and get your USB or a USB drive to boot first. otherwise you have to pull the drive and get at your data. most computers have a hot key during the boot process to get to the bios ( before your error will come up . look for that ... Then you can get to a recovery program on your USB or DVD. I use puppy linux to get to copy all my data FIRST. then go from there.

I have a Dell vostro 3700 purchased only a few months ago. The hard drive crashed. After replacing the internal hard drive with new seagate, 750GB 7200rpm, how do I reinstall the OS? I turned off the...

Pop the install DVD into the drive and restart your laptop. When you see the Dell logo hit the F2 key to get you into the BIOS. Look for boot options in the list and set the DVD/CD drive as the first boot device. Save the changes and exit the BIOS.

The laptop should restart and boot form the DVD/CD drive so you can install the operating system.

Good luck and regards.

Computer wont boot

Try disambling the system. Clean it with a wind blower. Check BIOS battery capacity. Replace if possible. Power on the laptop. Do you hear humming sound from hard disk ? If you hear sssssssshhhhh sound from hard disk; it's OK. Replace RAM with new one. If problem still exists Than change main board. Hope that not happen. Keep informing.

Windows vista wont boot!

could be 2 things either your bios or your cd is dirty.
Turn the cd upside down so the silver side is facing you
Put the cd near a light and see if there is anything on it and wash it off and dry it off before you use it
Also while you are at it check to see if there is a deep scratch the problem with cd and dvd drivers is the eye get stuck even on finger prints they are so touchy same as dust ect.
If you need to get into the bios make sure the first boot is your cd or dvd drive.
you will need to press the <F2> key during POST (Power On Self Test) to enter the Acer BIOS setup.
Then you use the arrows to move through each menu.
When you get to the boot options menu highlight it.
Then hit the enter button first one should be dvd or cd drive second one should be either HDD1 or HDD0
On the bottom of the bios page it will show how to do the changes
and how to save them then it will go back to the original screen
that you were first at now hit the arrow key to the last menu and hit save and exit it will ask you if you are sure hit the key Y
that should do it.
Happy Holidays

Vaio VGN-S460 won't boot

Maybe simply buy another SATA HDD to replaced faulty one, which you said it came with "clicking noises".

you also can try hold tee 'C" or "F12" when you power on the laptop to get from DVD booting.

How do I install a SATA DVD drive in my 655A V1.0?

Hi stewwiles, If your bios does not see & list the drive neither will windows hardware manager/ device manager. Check your manual. Enter your bios. The DVD drive should be listed in the same menu as your hard disk drive. Than go to the title "Boot" in your bios & make sure your DVD is listed in the boot order. (List of normal boot order):
1st boot device= Floppy drive
2nd boot device= DVD drive (model no#)
3rd boot device= Primary hard disk drive (model no#)

Make sure your DVD's jumper setting is set to "Master".

Good luck!

Dell latitude d510 laptop

My guess is that when you are booting, the system tries and fails to communicate with a critical device, or some settings in the system BIOS are incorrect. First, make sure you have removed anything extra that is not part of the laptop; slide-in cards, printers, anything connecting with a cable other than the power supply.

Then, restart the machine and go into the boot BIOS (watch the lower left hand side of the screen when the machine boots up for instructions on how to enter the BIOS, usually by pressing delete or F10 key). Once in the BIOS you should be able to navigate a bit and turn things on and off and then SAVE AND REBOOT. Most DELLs have, somewhere in the BIOS, something like "LOAD SAFE DEFAULTS AND RESTART". Try that. On rebooting, see if you have the same problems. If you do, try going into the BIOS again and turning off all USB ports, SERIAL ports, and everything else hardware related that can be turned off. Make sure at each step you have, in the BIOS, the boot order set with the CD/DVD drive as first, and then HDD as second.

You might also have a bad hard drive. If all else fails, turn over the machine and remove the little door covering the hard drive, and then boot the machine listening to see if the hard drive makes a little whirring noise. Also check to see if the hard drive might have become dislodged from making a good connection due to the machine's being dropped somehow.

You could also have a bad CD/DVD drive. Check that when the machine boots, the CD/DVD sounds like it is spinning, and you should be able to hear some small noises coming from it as it reads.

If it is not solved by one of these three things (playing with BIOS settings to identify faulty device or driver, bad HDD, bad CD/DVD), you need to take the machine to a hard-core geek friend and throw yourself on his or her mercy. :>)
