What happened to my request for the proceedure to follow in changing a clutch in a sthil 18 inch chainsaw? you've charged me $6 and i've read your return email once and then it disappeared off my computer in less than 24 hours. Is your set up some form of scam or what? A more definative answer would be appreciated. Rgds. Phil

I have no idea who you talk to before? But i will try and help. You need to remove the side cover and bar.The clutch unscrews counter clockwise. You can use a something like a punch and hammer.Give it a quick hit and it should come loose.Put it back on the same way.Just give it a couple hits to tighten. If the teeth on the clutch cover are very worn replace that also.Anything else I can help with just send me a email. They usually come off fairley easy.

What causes the Clutch drum gear that drive the chain to go bad ? my chain eats a groove all the way through it aftr about 12 hrs of cutting I have replaced it 3 times now.

The chain you should be using should be a .325 pitch and not a 3/8.

Never over tighten the chain, it will wear and stretch with time, which is why you should regularly check the chain tension. To get it right you should be able to lift 2 drive links clear of the bar. The chain will naturally wear groves into the spur sprocket, there is no conversion to a rim spricket for this model. Rim sprockets allow the chain to move along the sprocket easier and takes the wear away form the clutch drum.

Change drive spocket

To change the sprocket you need to remove the cover where the bar attaches, remove bar and chain...then you will need to unscrew the bolt on the bell. the bell should slide off...check to see that the new clutch bell comes with bearings, as you may need to purchase separately...then reassemble in reverse order...note: make sure that the brake is NOT engaged when you take the cover off as it will make it difficult to put the cover back...and trying to release the brake with the cover off is VERY difficult

Saw won't start

If you have followed all of the manual instructions for starting, take the machine back to the selling dealer and have them start it. If it runs for them, obtain whatever clues you can from their procedures. If they can't get it to run either, request a replacement unit. Good luck!

Sthil are a roal panin in the *** takes 50 time of pulling the rope to get it started

Read you manual. you will NEVER have to pull anything 50 times to start it... pull off your muffler (if you filled it with gas) and let it dry out.

My 18 V ryobi chain saw doesn't activate

Batteries need to be stored fully charged and recharged every month or so while in storage. Batteries need to be kept cool. Try another battery to see if the battery is bad or if the saw is out of order. Contact Ryobi @ 800 -525-2579 The full extent of your message did not appear on my screen. So I am not sure this helped you.
