Question about Adam Audio A7X Powered Studio Monitor (7 inch, 150 watts)

1 Answer

Hi, I ordered my Adam a7x from america to Australia. When receiving them, i plugged in australian adapters (300/500volts). But when powering them up, unfortunately the light went on and then a crackle happened, then the light slowly faded out. Now the speakers won't turn on at all? Any answers?

Did you just use adapters or actual step-down transformers?
A lot of equipment today is 110/220 auto-switching, but if you get something built for 110V (120V, 100V, markings may vary) only, then you need more than an adapter, you need a transformer!

I first tried using Australian cables C-13 (it says on the cable it supports 300/500 volt)... (Like the one i got with my Playstation 3)... or computer...

Then i tried using one of their cables they supplied.. and an 'American to Australian' adapter so i could plug it into my wall.. but still doesnt work?

Look at the voltage specs of the unit, not the cord. Does your unit say 110V or does it say 110 / 220V or what exactly?

  • tyevanss Mar 14, 2011

on the unit it says 2 options
    220-240V 50hz
    100-120V 60hz

IT says use only with a 250v plug.. which i did:/

Well, it's new and under warranty, and I never suggest that anyone void their warranty, so I'd call up the manufacturer and say it never worked, and ask for an exchange.
It may have been a factory defect.
If you're absolutely positive you want to give up your warranty, post a note back here, and we'll see what we can do.

is it possible that i have blown my speakers already?

is it possible that if the speaker was set to 120 volt.. and my main ac voltage on my wall socket is 220volt then i have blown the speaker... this would be sad...

If the setting is manual rather than automatic (most are automatic) then yes - regardless of the cable you used, if the power supply was manually set to 120V or NOT manually set to 220 when the unit was powered up, that would almost definitely fry something.

Adam a7x same box with defferent fuse, why?

do you mean you got a new one and it just has a different fuse? if so you may have already got a newer model or older model where the pc board inside has differnt "Revisions". just meaning the designers changed a thing here or there such as rev. a or rev. b. shouldn't be a big deal but it does state you do not have identical speakers hence they may also filter sound differently.

My adam A3X is suddently having the power switch stuck. I can no longer turn it on.

As loon as the power switch is not also a circuit breaker, just change the switch. If it is also a circuit breaker then there probably is some problem with the amp.

My adapter or plug is broke and i need a new one. last night i used an adapter from the br-800 and it worked except that when i used the cd option the screen would flicker then it would shut off?

Sounds like the adapter for the 800 isn't quite up to delivering the required current, If it is a standard barrel plug type, you should be able to get a low cost replacement from a local electronics store like Jaycar (Australia) or Radio shack (america) to name a few examples. If possible, take the failed adapter from the 900 in with you when you go to get a replacement as this will help the staff get you the right adapter.

Alternatively you could try ordering one from roland, but that would be a much more pricey venture.
Here is the support site for roland products, it will give you an idea of how to go about having your adapter repaired or replaced.

Check your pwer adapter as MANY of them will take 100 to 240 volts inout... if yours does, you are go to go... else here is one that will work as it is a worldwide type:

I'm attempting to connect my new axiom pro 61 via Midi cables to my mbox2. To do this I understand I must rely on the power supply rather than USB. When plugging the axiom in to the wall it will not turn...

The AXIOM SHOULD turn on with just the wall wart adapter so you HAVE A PROBLEM.

First thing is to check the adapter that it is the correct one. It should be a 12 VDC 1 amp unit with positive center pin output.

Common adapters for pedals WILL NOT WORK.

Assuming you have the correct adapter, VERIFY the connector is plugged fully in the AXIOM.

If you use the right adapter for the voltages it will work fine. The other option is to use a transformer that steps the power down to 110 to 120 and use the supplied adapter. The unit takes very little power.

The only simple way that I could think of is for you to purchase a STEP DOWN TRANSFORMER rated at 500 watt, 110 volts, 60cycle. The transformer inside that amplifier have four output 12v and 15v DC.2amps It will be hard to get the transformer for that! Hope that might help you! taah!
