Question about Acer (54.AA806.001) Sound Card

1 Answer

Now frustration has set in as i am trying to get my Yamaha MU5 tone generator and Korg keyboard (Both midi) to link with my new Acer Aspire One D255 N550 netbook which i have loaded with an old version of Cubasis AV all of which used to work fine and was trying to get it all to work prior to potentially buying a new music production suite perhaps Cakewalk Sonar X1 essential. At present i have linked the various components together using a Chord midi-usb interface cable but to no avail as nothing appears to recognise each other so the basic question is can My Acer run music production software and link to midi devices and secondly if it is possible how can do i do it????? Yours in anticipation John

I need to know how it's all hooked up first (IE Korg midi out to Yamaha in, Yamaha thru or out to Chord, USB from chord to Acer.....etc etc. etc.)
Also, see if the instruments can at least talk to each other.

Sorry for the mistake with regard to your question at the moment i have the two midi plugs of the chord interface cable plugged into the MU5 with the usb plug in the Acer netbook neither the midi in or out lights come on when the software is being used that is when the play button is pressed on the demo tune and again the two midi lights do not react on the chord interface cable when the notes are played when in play mode on the MU5 although i do believe that the Acer has detected the interface. Silly question then, in the default audio device in your control panel, is the midi set to your sound card rather than the new midi device?

Sorry for not getting back sooner my netbook is running windows 7 home premium and I cannot find any reference within control panel to Midi as I could when running XP on an older laptop is this the inherent problem which is causing the lack of communication

While using korg m50 editor using usb data cable there is no sound from my lap.the sound is only from my head phone connected to my keyboard directly?

Are you connecting to the laptop and using it as a midi controller? You can record midi notes from the keyboard and send them to your laptop via USB using any midi sequencer program (reason, logic, etc). Create a midi track, select the input of that track as your keyboard, then hit record to play some midi notes. To hear what you record, you have to set the output of the midi track to whatever midi sounds or instrunents you have installed on your laptop.

If you are trying to record the actual audio sound the keyboard makes, use an audio program such as cubase, sonar, audacity, pro-tools, and either mic the keyboard, or connect one of the other audio outputs (1/4" TRS) to an audio input on your DAW, and record an audio track that way (as opposed to a midi track).

Hi Iam using my korg pa50 as the master keyboard ive connected the midi cables to my other keyboard which is a yamaha psr9000 I cannot play the chords on the pa50 using the styles on the psr9000 is there...

The styles on the PSR9000 are NOT available on the PA50. Any styles of the PSR9000 would only come from the audio generation and outputs of the PSR9000. The PSR9000 would have to be setup to the style independently as that cannot be controlled via MIDI from the PA50 controls.

I can't get my Yamaha WX5 to sustain, or play more than one note. I got it to do it long ago by accident, but can't seem to get it to do it again. I think I was using a Yamaha Keyboard for the sounds at...

Reread your manual pages 14 and 15. Note page 14 tells you that "When using a monophonic tone generator such as the VL70m, the Normal Hold and Follow Hold functions CANNOT be used." I have both the WX5 and WX7. I also have both the VL70m and the WT11. The VL70m has a lot of better sounds, is editable and has better effects the WT11 allows you to use both follow modes. Any polyphonic midi keyboard with a midi in jack will allow you to use the follow modes. Read the directions on page 9 of your WX5 manual to hook your WX5 to the keyboard. Set your keyboard to receive all midi channels. I think it is Omni On, Poly. Hope this helps.

No sound

1. plug in some headphones into the jack.
2. connect to an amplifier or external source.
3. connect midi to a midi-compatible device and determine if device receives signal by pressing keys

If #1 or #2 passes, your speakers are bad.

If #1 & #2 fail, but #3 passes, your setting are set so that there is no sound, but the keybourd still recognizes input.

If all three fail, the keys do not send a signal at all, you should replace the keyboard.
