It is a loose connection or cold solder and cleaning problem this is the main caused of no sound..Cold solder issues - each component is soldered into small holes on the printed circuit board which in turn connects said component to the other components. Due to time, heat, use, some solder joints would be cracked or loose. It is possible that the cold solder is still minimally connected (hanging by a thread). When the receiver turns on heat would be generated which would be sufficient to further loosen up the solder joint to the point it no longer provides electrical contact. Jarring the unit creates movement inside enough to re establish the contact, sometime good enough sometimes not enough.

Again, since the unit still operates (sometimes) then it is highly probable that there are no defective components. As you have surmised, it is possibly a loose connection, solder joints are "connections" except that molten soldering lead is used to attach/connect the component to the board, "loose connection" in this sense is equal to "cold solder".

Again on the assumption of no defective parts, then seeking a more experienced buddy for the soldering might be to your advantage. This is of course in addition to the possible electrical hazards when repairing....

Good luck:

Sounds like a compatibility issue. Check for a firmware update for the TV, Google (tv make and model) HDMI update.
Good luck

Diplay dont work and no sound from speakers

Does it turn on? or does it "click" then a second later, "click" again? First thing to look at would be the internal fuse. Pull the top off the unit and check the fuse, it's located right near the AC input. If the fuse is ok, it needs serviced, if it's bad, you can find a replacement at radio shack. Hope this helps. If you need more help, just post a comment and I can help some more.

Radio screen showen ( code )

The anti-theft feature was engaged. This is usually caused by the battery being disconnected. Do one of the following:
1. Check your owners manual for the User Card showing the code.
2. Call Hyundai National Consumer Affairs at (714) 965-3006.
When you call, you may need the VIN number or the radio chassis identification number (That might be the radio's serial number). They will tell you how to retrieve the information needed.

If the wrong lock-out code is entered, the Anti-Theft system will activate and the radio will become inoperable. To correct this, press and hold the "BAND" button for at least 3 seconds until the incorrect number on the radio disappears and "CODE" is displayed again.

Let me know if this helps!

Had dead battery. Now radio says I need a code to unlock it.

What type of radio is this? If it is aftermarket, then typically Eclipse and Kenwood are the only units that utilize radio codes. If it is a factory radio (Honda, Acura, Audi, VW typically), then you will need the code which is 4 or 5 digits long and located in your owners manual or vehicle documentation on a small card the size of a credit card. If this is unavailable, then you will need to visit a local stereo shop, have your radio removed and re-installed, and your serial number written down. Take your radio's serial number to any dealer for your car manufacturer, and they will provide you with the unlock code. Hope this helps.

I have a Westinghouse tube radio, AM/FM table model, uses a selenium rectifier. I need a schematic for this radio, do not have a model number, but chassis number is 240635. Would appreciate your help.

Hi driggins

Wondering if that may be the serial number that you have quoted. Most Westinghouse radios that I have been able to find are allocated model numbers as WRXXX
If it has a solid state rectifier then it will be post war vintage at least.

Are there any other identifying marks on the radio?

I have a Kenwood KDC-MP438U and I need the serial number. Is there a way to have this displayed on the stereo screen so I do not have to remove the stereo?

Sorry, there is nothing like that available on any car stereos I have ever repaired. I have been repairing many different aftermarket brands for over 17 years.

The Kenwood serial number is on the bottom of the stereo on a sticker along with the model number.

You can pull the radio very easy, take the face and the trim ring off. Then use something very slim and stiff that will fit between the radio and the cage that holds the radio, your radio should have come with 2 metal strips about 6 inches long that are used for pulling the radio. Push those metal strips in along the sides of the radio but inside the cage, and when they are in far enough you can pull the radio out of the cage that holds it. You can pull it out about a little over half way and see the serial number on the bottom.

I hope this helps you pull the radio a little easier, since there is no way to get the radio to display the serial number on the face.
