Hello - It's unfortunate, but yes, in that whatever the repair cost is it will be more than the worth of the camera which is currently selling (used) on Ebay for between $25-35. That is assuming the camera is no longer under any warranty.

I'm not in the advice business but I'd like you to know that you can purchase an 8-10 mega-pixel (yours is five mega-pixels) digital camera of equal quality with more features than the HP for between $60-100. Unless you're really in love with that particular camera I would give that some serious consideration.

Thanks for using Fix Ya - Hope this was helpful to you.

Regards,

Mikeywaf

Hi,

This is a common problem with these camera's. This is either faulty screen or a problem with CCD sensor. In both situations, repair is never recommended as buying a new camera would be cost effective as compared to getting this camera repaired. Try to look at previously saved video's or images, if you still see horizontal lines, it would confirm faulty screen unless if the saved video's or images are fine, and this happens only when you try to click a picture, this would confirm faulty CCD sensor.

I wish i could have a better solution.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Hi,

You no need to fix this problem. This is a CCD failure and in some cases had been subject to a recall.Contact Kodak support this may be one of the recalls and replacement camera could be on its way. They will do it for free of cost.

Canon MP980 prints horizontal pink lines across

try to change the color ink. horizontal banding (the pink or other color lines appearing means horizontal banding) when there is a problem on one of the heating element of the printer head. since almost all canon printers have head built in the inks, replacing the faulty ink will solve the problem. if not then the controller of printhead on the carriage and mainboard needs to be checked.

Horizontal Lines through the photo

Horizontal may not be due to the CCD sensor. It can be due to the lens itself. I swap lens from a non-working camera to replace the one with horizontal lines. I found out that I was able to get the camera to work to take great pictures.

Sony DSC-V1 optical viewfinder has a horizontal line in it

It shouldn't be there, but as the optical viewfinder is completely separate from the photographic light path it's nothing to worry about either.

Normally it's caused by either a hair or fibre which has somehow entered the viewfinder (rare) or more commonly by a fine scratch across the front window to the viewfinder. Also check the rear viewfinder viewing lens as the same damage could occur there but as that lens is relatively protected it's unlikely.

Any further fixing involves dismantling the DSC-V1 and possibly sourcing spares made of purest unobtanium so if the camera works perfectly well then leave the screwdrivers safely in the toolbox for now.

Send it in for a quote. It should cost the equivalent of $10 USD, more or less, wherever you are. No expert, however talented, can bring a broken sensor back to original shape.

Digital camera problem

The suggestion that it would cost a thousand dollars to fix this problem is totally off the mark. Your camera's shutter has stuck open. Normally when you take a picture the shutter closes blocking out the light and allowing the image sensor to record what it saw at the moment the shutter closed. When the shutter sticks open the images come out over-exposed and have lines across them because the image sensor is unable to properly record the image. This problem can be fixed with complete disassembly of the camera and lens assembly. The labor costs in the range of $89 to $145 and parts are not usually required. Check with your manufacturer for recalls and/or warranty support. If they cannot help you for free, there are repair providers which you can find online who will work on your camera for reasonable rates. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
