Question about Mitsubishi WS-65857 65" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

I just got this tv 3-12-11 and it worked. This am 3-13, the picture was on for like 2 mins then disappeared and the screen turned blue. When I am able to pull up the "Menu", which doesn't happen much at all, it's only there for a brief second then it's gone. While it's on the blue hue, it's seems likes it's pulsating almost like it's trying to setup the channels for the first time but that's not anything I'm trying to do and nothing happens anyway. I'm baffled. The one thing that did happen after we statrted watching it and before it was turned off for the night was my husband's friend was randomly pushing ALL the buttons on the remote and fooling around with different functions WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE MANUAL. Why you might ask, I have No clue except some guys think they know everything about electronics. If my husband unhooks the cables and hooks them up again, sometimes, briefly we get a picture, maybe for a minute. Thanks So Much for Your Help.

Hi Itsleenda.

There is not much that you can do at component level. You described a defective TV. Either one of the three CRTs (light tubes) is gone, or the digital controller board is gone. PSU must also be tested.

The technician will test starting from the power supply (PSU). If TV starts up, then testing is reading voltages in the different DDC line.

Second part to test are the CRTs, deflection yokes, and the CRT power boards.

Finally, the tech will test video circuits, main board, terminal board, convergence and jungle. Things to test are mainly grouped in the assembly below, click on picture to enlarge:

It looks like the settings for the inputs have been messed up. If this was caused by the pressing of the buttons then the fix is simple: you just press the A/V RESET button on the front of the tv. If this doesn't fix it then the defect is hardware - the controller chip has failed. This is clearly a manufacturing defect and it's covered by the warranty - you will have to call the ones that sold it to you to arrange a visit from their repairmen. Or just return it and get your money back.

A single 5 seconds press is enough to do the job.

My TV works good for 10-20 min then the picture turns off (black screen) but the audio still on! so does it need a new MLT070A?

Hi Medhat,
When the picture disappears and the sound continues please try a flash light on the screen. If you see the picture, it is the backlight which fails. Most of the times it is the inverter card which causes this.
Good luck

My Samsung 47 has a black film covering 1/2 the screen for about

Samsung only makes TVs that last 2 years, mine also has the same problem. Throw it away and buy a cheaper disposable TV, despite all the hype Samsung is just another cheap and nasty manufacturer who uses its customers as product testers. Why do you think they keep changing model numbers every week ?

TV works fine for a while, then the picture disappears.

I would just replace the TV, the parts are not going to be made to repair this. The set is just to old.

No video on our tv

I found in the manual on page 13 bottom, that if you PRESS STOP buttom for 5 seconds of your remote controller then you can see the picture on the interlaced mode again on your TV.

Otherwise you have to connect you DVD to a unit that has progresiv scan, such as an HDTV, some computers if they have an input or to a projector .

I connected my DVD to a projector thru the VIDEO output and put eveything back to normal, and it is working fine now.

System Reset

Open CD disk tray. Press stop key and hold for 15 seconds, screen will appear.

TV Picture cuts off.

The blue screen means that you have lost signal. If the set don't have signal for so long it turns itself off. "power saver feature" Check all connections or replace cables, If that don't work the signal board may be going bad.
