It certainly sounds like your on to it...I'll come back to you tomorrow with the model number. The brand is Fisher and Pykel Nautilus

  • brian83856 Mar 14, 2011

Hi, yes it is a Fisher and Paykel Nautilus dishwasher. I'll try and find a model number and advise tomorrow.

Certainly when i look inside the latch area with in the door top I don't see anything that would enable the door latch so something may righly so have broken or come away?

Hey you were on to it, my model is the DW920...I've looked in to the door (had to use a torch) and I think I can see something that resembles part no 5 which I assume is inserted into or is part of part no 6. Regardless I cannot see how it (part no 5) would insert into Part 11 which holds the door shut.

Could I be missing a part which has dropped out/broken etc. What do you think?

    Thanks

Cheers Kelly...I'll give it a go and thanks for your advise. Lets hope I can achieve a result. I rather hope I don't have to get a tech in as I'l have to take out a mortgage to pay for the visit (just joking)

Oh one more question, if I find the part broken (item 5 most likely) and has fallen down behing the door skin, is it easy enought to replace or do I have to replace the whole latch unit part 6?

    Thoughts appreciated

I can help you with parts information but I need to know your model number and brand name. When a latch just stops working it is usually the plastic base that has broken. If you gently lift it up and down it may move in an odd plane. However if the end of the latch has broken the catch on the base, the arm will be fine but the base will be broken.

Hi Brian, I am assuming it is either a DW820 or DW920 model. I looked on the door parts and the latch and catch appear to be item 5 and 6 of this manual: (under door)

Hi Brian, The door skin / front cover should come off by removing the screws outside the door gasket area. I don't have any drawings that are any better than what we have already seen. I am pretty sure that item 5 has broken and fallen into the door. The broken piece will most likely fall out once you remove the skin / front cover. It is not difficult to open the door panels for inspection. Only a matter of removing the right screws. Just make sure you DO NOT remove the door hinge screws as the spring tension can really ruin your day. Sorry for not being able to be more specific but... due to the size of this latch catch... you have little choice but to open the door up for inspection. Just make sure you turn off power BEFORE removing the door skin panel.

    Hi Brian,

I am pretty sure on 1/2 of the latch assembly is broken. Usually the weakest link is the inner part (Item 5 / Stop Latch) that breaks. You will see once you open it if you would need item 6. It is really hard to determine with a flashlight from the outside which one is broken. Sometimes they both break but... most of the time it is just the stop latch. The stop latch design on the majority of models is a U-shaped device that the door handle finger latches onto when you move the lever to the closed position. The top of the U is what breaks off. Some of the door handle latch levers have a spring on them that keep tension on the latch arm so that it will engage the catch. If the spring is broken the arm / catch will never engage the latch.

Forgot to mention that it is easy to replace. Just mounting screws on the stop latch. The hardest part is getting the door skin off.

Dishwasher does not start

Check the door latch mechanism. If the dishwasher does not see the door shut it will not start. Look for any obstructions in the door latch mechanism area.

Child lock on. How do you get it off?

I went out on a service call for this dishwasher yesterday. The complaint was that the door latch was broken and the child lock light was lit. I temporarily rigged the latch to work until the replacement part came in but that left me with the problem of the child lock still engaged. The mini-manual for this dishwasher is located behind the kick plate. The mini-manual revealed that the child lock (called a control lock in the manual) can be disengaged by pressing and holding the air dry button for four seconds. So now the customer can run the dishwasher with the rigged door latch until I can properly repair it later this week.
Hope this works

Oven sef clean latch locked but door is open and I cannot clos it. I inadvertantly urned it to self clean and openedthe door and the latch is locked in self clean position. How do I release the latch so I...

Ok. Open the door and find the oven light switch(es) (some models had two switches). Press the switch(es) in and see if the latch goes back to the home position. If not enlist a volunteer to turn on the self clean cycle while you are holding the switch(es) in. Just after the self clean starts have them hit cancel and wait until the lock comes back to it's "home" or unlocked position.
Good luck!!

Hello,
If you armed the security system with the key Fob Transmitter it will stay armed until it is disarmed with the transmitter if the door switch is bad in the latch.
I would try to unlock the doors with your remote transmitter. If this doesnt help try to unlock your rear Trunk/tail gate with the key making sure all doors are closed. If this doesnt work you may need to perform the VTD relearn procedure. Let me know If thats the case Ill give you the instructions you need.

Frigidaire gallery front load won't spin

Does the washer spin after the wash cycle? It sounds like the door switch. This is a common problem with frigidaires. 90% of the time a door switch fixes it.

99 astro , upper rear door latch stuck on right side. can the latch assembly be reached from the interior ?

Ok here is what I just did. From the inside I removed the handle bolts and the two screws on both ends. (Be sure the other side is pushed in and latched). Then I used a punch and removed the two hinge pins on the roof. ***WITH SOME HELP*** push the release button. Careful for the door will pop out due to the cylinders pushing outward. At that point I removed the molding to access the latch. *Note---there are two more screws on both ends of the molding.* From the inside you can now reach the latch and release it. Again be careful the other cylinder will push out and the door will drop until it reaches the end of the cylinder stroke. Now you will need to re-pin the hinges at the top. From there I located the broken plastic clip that caused all this discuss. I temporarily removed the latch so I can still use the van until I get to the parts store plus it seems as if it will be easier to replace the clip. GOOD LUCK ! ! !

GE front load washer WSXH208v1ww door latch

Unfortunately, the "door latch assembly" is what you would need. It comes with a new concrete front tub counter weight which is redesigned to not be able to contact the door latch switch on out of balance spins. It is also a lot of work to replace. (you can not get just the little plastic part) Please don't rate this solution, as anything but a Fix-Ya lowers my score, and I know you don't want to shoot the messenger.

THERE IS A MICROSWITCH INSTALLED REAR DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY. THIS NOT A SERVICABLE PART, THE ENTIRE LATCH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS THE "DOOR SIDE" OF THE LATCH ASSEMBLY.
