Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

The on-screen clock on my sony bravia kdl40w5500 lcd TV (lower RH screen) has disappeared. My problem is that I usually watch TV thru a Topfield TRF7160 PVR and I don't know whether the clock is controlled by the TV or PVR! Despite searching both manuals, I cannot seem to find the solution. This senior technophobe would appreciate advice. Thank you.

Thank you so much, TaiFood, as, in a roundabout way, you have helped me solve the problem which has had me baffled for ages!

Firstly, I couldn't access that site you supplied, so I went to Sony Australia for a peek

My Topfeild TRF7160 PVR has frozen in the Record mode .I've tried disconnecting from Mains, but to no avail. On initial switch-on, the PVR screen informs me that machine is recording ...a small red arrow is illuminated at top left of this screen , & no amount of "stop record " or any other stop button seems to have any effect . Any advice you may have as to how to overcome this problem will be very much appreciated . Thank you .

Page 28...on screen display for the clock

Under Front Display make sure it isn't "disabled"

Under sub display you will find the clock and persistence option

I did investigate your kind suggestion, but this is not the clock I am seeking. I didn't mean the time which is displayed in the Topfield Program Guide and Info Bar. I would find the Info Bar distracting if it was showing at the bottom of the screen all of the time.
The clock I am referring just displays the time only and was showing on the bottom RH screen for a time.
I had a thought today that perhaps it was from my Bravia DVD (which is not on standby when not in use) but I played a DVD and no clock appeared, so I guess it must originate from my TV.

    Thanks again

    Hi mdeg2000,

Sorry for the misdirection. I assumed you went through the display options. Try one applicable manuals if the below isn't helpful.

As of 3 7 2011 there seems to be a firmware update for Sony TV's that has to do with the TV's clock accuracy. The update should reset your display to default settings and remove it from your continual display. Here is the notice:

Sorry for my late response! Many thanks, taifood, as you did help me indirectly! I could not access your suggested site but it gave me the idea to check out the Sony Australia site (why did I not think of this before??!!) and found a Customer Help Line 1300 137 669. I got a very helpful man in Auckland, NZ!!!! He told me to simply press the 'i' button on the TV remote twice & presto - up popped the date I was looking for! I had read this in a post earlier when I first began looking for a solution but, for some reason, when I tried it at that time, nothing happened - so I just assumed that my TV was a different model.

Anyway - problem now solved & I now don't have to buy a wall clock! I highly recommend the Sony Help Line for assistance.

    Thanks again for your interest.

Sony bravia kdl 32l4000 - color bars running vertically on screen

In most cases is the screen is covered with vertical lines all the way accross the screen then the T-Con module is at fault. The t-con board is replaceable without having to replace the entire LCD panel which would usually make it cheaper than replacing the TV. The part number I come up with is 1-857-213-11. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks...
