Hello - From what you've written I would assume that you have connected your notebook to your new monitor with an HDMI cable. You have the right idea. The problem is, yes HDMI does carry both video and audio, but your new monitor doesn't have any way to output the sound...no speakers.

When your laptop connected to the external monitor it recognized the HDMI and assumed the device was sound capable. You need to go to Start > Control Panel > Sound and setup the sound to go through your notebooks speakers like it normally does and not try to send sound to the monitor.

After the change you'll view the video on your new monitor and the sound will be output by your laptop speakers like always.

Thanks for using Fix Ya and enjoy your new LED display.

Display driver fails while watching videos

Are you watching the video on-line? From the DVD/CD rom drive? What is your OS? Windows 7? 32 or 64bit? Is this a recent occurrence? I'm sure you have done ALL your Windows and HP updates, if on-line have you tried another browser? If you haven already looked the drivers can be found here, choose your OS: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4290955& Have you verified the machine is clean and free of dust in the fan, vents, heatsink? No Overheating? Getting proper air flow? Only use the drivers from the HP site or Windows updates. HP G62 black screen on start up

If it has no "ghost image" on the monitor, nothing, it could be a connection issue, a ribbon cable on the rear of the monitor, the inverter, a tiny switch the operates the on/off of the backlighting when the lid is opened or closed, sometimes located near the lid hinges. Have you tried a External Monitor? Take a look at this video, it may help troubleshoot the issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yi6GNFcP3w

I have an hp pavilion dv9815nr notebook pc. My laptop turns on, but when I enter the first letter of my password the screen goes black. Computer sound like it is still running but just black screen

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.

Did the laptop seem like it boot up all the way? Do you hear the fan running and the hard drive spinning?

I bought hp dv2630ea laptop 3 years ago, recently my laptop screen went into blank, no light, no image on the screen. i brought it to the hp service authorized center in hyderabad, they said problem with...

The LCD screen may be faulty. I suggest you borrow a monitor to test your laptop if you do not already own one.
If the laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then connect an external monitor to the laptops video port. Power up the monitor and then boot up the laptop and the video information will automatically divert to the external monitor.
If this works then you have a working laptop.

The speakers no longer work. They were working 2

selectbanker, As a test only try this. Remove green plug from rear of pc. Find old am/fm stereo transistor radio or even a portable cd player and connect the green plug to your "new" audio source. Can you hear anything coming out of the monitor's speakers? Also try a set of stereo headphones in the green audio "out" jack to see if sound is coming out of the pc. Narrow down where loss of signal occurs first. 12fixlouie

Blank LCD laptop does turn on

I beleave you may need to press the function key as well as the F-4 key to bring up an external monitor.
Try holding down the Function key and tapping the F-4 key while watching the screen on the external monitor.
Is your unit within warranty, HP offer an extended 1 year on top of your normal 1 year warranty for video and motherboard issues.
Hope this has helped.

Hi everyone, I have an hp Tx1000 laptop. The pc fails to boot up and there's just a black screen. It's not responding at all. It powers up but nothing shows on the screen. I tried recovering it several...

When you stated that you tried to recover it several times, how were you able to attempt that if you have no video. You cannot see what you are doing.

Nonetheless, you GRAPHICS CHIP is shot. Your laptop is essentially dead. The system will power on but the graphic chip will not produce a video. Often people reflow these chips, however, they seldom last long and the video quality is compromised.

If you can see the video on an external monitor then your screen, LCD Inverter, or Video cable is bad. If you cannot see the video on an external monitor. Your graphic chip is dead. End of the road for your system. Don't waste your time and money on the reflow.

Good luck

HP Pavilian external monitor color problem.

The easiest thing would be to check your cable for a bent or loose pin. Next put another external monitor on the laptop. The circuitry to provide video to the laptop screen and the external monitor are separate except that they share a video processor and video memory. There can be bad electronics involved.
