Question about Black & Decker String Trimmer Cordless 12" 18V

1 Answer

My mom bought a black and decker 18 volt electric weeder/edger. It works great, except the battery will only hold a charge for about 10-15 minutes. It came with 2 batteries and we charged both for a couple of days before use. Both batteries only last for the 10-15 minute period.

we have 3 batteries and they all vary from 10 minutes to 20 minutes to 5 minutes following charging. Often I have to wait for the batteries to charge up so I can continue working on the project. Gas model keeps going past all 3 batteries, even though the fuel mixing and starting are drawbacks, at least they are not waiting for batteries.

I am thinking of getting the BLACK & DECKER 18-Volt Cordless Garden Cultivator. How long is the battery life?

This tool is great! It works wonderfully so it is defintely worth buying. the battery life doesn't last that long though, maybe about 20 minutes. the good thing is if you have other black and decker tools, the batteries all interchange. if you don't have any then i would recommend buying a 2nd battery. great purchase.

I have a B&D Cordless Grass Hog. It suddenly won't charge. When I plug in the charger, the light won't come on. Is it just getting too old or is there anything I can do to fix this one?

Black and Decker has had numerous complaints from consumers. Most of them are over a failed batttery or batttery charger. There have been reports that their service centers refuse to repair them, stating that it is not cost effective. so, if a unit is still under their warranty, they probably just replace it. In your case, if it is an older unit; consider yourself one of the lucky ones that had one to work for an extended period of time. If you choose, the charger and the batteries for it can have their electrical capacities checked with a simple volt-meter tool. The tool doesn't lie and would let you know if the charger's output is correct and if the batteries are holding their charge.

How do I make it go - I don't have an opertrator's manual so don't know how to start it - holding down the trigger doesn't work.

That is how you start it. There may be a battery problem, a switch problem or wiring problem. If it worked before, I would work the switch without opening it (just as it should operate) several times. If that doesn't work, make sure the battery is charged and in properly. If that doesn't work it will probably in the wiring. Good luck...Lee
