SOURCE: how to remove motor AO Smith Model C48K2N143CIC

Take off the rear cover as to expose the capacitor. Remove capacitor. Place a 7/16 wrench on the shaft threw the opening where you removed the capacitor. Put a rag on the impeller and with a wrench turn it counterclockwise. It should come off easily. Make sure you replace the seals before reassembling

If you can, I would certainly replace the capacitor; you are describing classic bad capacitor symptom. There is no guarantee, though, but the cost is low. Remember, the capacitor holds voltage even when the motor is unplugged!
I would bet that once you get the motor running correctly, your pumping problem will resolve itself.
I don't believe that suddenly two problems occurred at once.

My pool pump starts up sounds like its on but not pumping water

Open up the housing between the motor and the strainer basket on the inlet...the impeller, which is the part that actually moves the water is inside. It is likely broken so the motor turns and turns but the pump won't move water. Replace the impeller and the seal if you find this to be true. If you know the brand and model of the pump it will help to find the parts. If not, there may be numbers on the old impeller which may identify it. the pump must not have any air leaks in the suction side of it,, or it will just **** air and not water,,, water is very heavy you see, however i think its the impeller in the pump thats the problem,,,you should try to put water in the out let of the pump so you fill the pump with water first if its dryed out it may just wear out the impeller before it starts to **** water up, if this still dont work turn off the stop **** and strip out the pump to look at the impeller any wear on it and it will need a new one fitted
i hope this has help you, good luck

According to our Emerson parts dealer, parts for that motor and the motor itself are obsolete. They could not provide a part number to search for or an equal part either. We can quote you a new BN34 if you wish to contact us through www.arrowpools.net.

My new AO Smith 2HP pool pump won't pump water, just hums

I'm guessing that you replaced the motor that goes to the pump, not the pump itself. You know the motor works just fine. Is the motor rotating in the correct manner(clockwise or counterclockwise) in relation to the rotation of the pump? Have you checked the pump to see if the impeller is working/rotating? Is the motor hooked up to the pump correctly, so that the motor is turning the impeller? Are all connections to the pump tight, so there are no suction leaks? Have you primed the pump and purged it of any air locks?

Our A O Smith pump/motor gets airbound everyday

Well somehow air is obviously getting into the pump line. Easiest fix is to move the pump below the water level of the tub and then gravity will keep water in there. If you do have the pump below the water level, then make sure you don't have jets shooting a bunch of air directly at the intake in the tub. If that's not the case and it is below water level, then make sure you don't have a leak in the line somewhere.
