Question about Pioneer PRO-710HD 64" Rear Projection Television

Screen off/popping on problem

Sorry if this is brief. 3rd try trying to reach you. My TV shuts off after some brightness flickering imbalance and then comes back on 30 minutes later with a loud pop. The down-time interval seems to be getting longer.

    I have the same symptoms and thank you for your insite. I have been auditioning all of the newest TV's available and can't find any that are as forgiving to **** signal as my Pioneer is. I love the detail the "top of the line" new Plasma's and LCD's give you when you are watching a Blu-Ray disc. But I'm grossed out by their inability to deal with old technology, "****" signal. I'm sick of having TV's that are capable of reproducing a great image while living in a country where almost all off our sourse signal is decades behind the times.

If you are still running your set with the
intermittencies happening occasionally, TURN IT OFF NOW
AND UNPLUG IT UNTIL TIME TO REPAIR THE BOARD! If it
has shown signs of occasional malfuction and you are
still running it, you are playing Russian Roullette
with your multi-thousand dollar investment.

if you are currently using your set while it's in this
compromised condition of blue flashing, inconsistent
brightnesses, shutdowns - not only are you
risking a ground letting go on a regulation circuit,
causing your voltage to go into runaway, but
you are also risking spikes going directly downline to
the rest of your set. Hinky connections
cause spikes. There's no way to protect the rest of
your set from these spikes by installing a
surge protector on your main power plug, which is way
too far away from the circuitry concerned,
downline from the PS board, to be of any help. The PS
board has spike filtering on the incoming
120v from the wall plug, but that doesn't matter
because it delivers its results DIRECTLY to the
rest of your set, and the same filtering does not exist
at the tail end of the PS board, only at
the nose/incoming end.

If you get a new PS board, there will be a new set of
high precision voltages going downline to the rest of
your set from it. The original voltages are what the
set was set up on originally, they were sent downline
from the original power supply bd to the rest of the
circuitry, where everything was set up according to
them. Voltage regulation is generic, and only has to
wind up being within certain parameters, which means a
great deal of difference may be there among the
voltages, between the old board and the new board.

As such, I do not recommend getting a new board from
Pio for this purpose on the x10 models of Pioneer
Elite, like this one, and some of the x20 models, which
used the same PS board. I instead recommend
having the original PS board resoldered by someone who
knows the ins and outs of how to do so without creating
solder bridges in the super small connections – which
are all over that board, and in massive quantities. It
is not a job for the faint of heart, nor the
inexperienced or ill-equipped. I am the only service
repair tech I know of who is doing what needs to be
done with this board, tho some DIYers claim to have
done so as well. Others have found the board they
resoldered has gone out later, when they didn’t do it
to the level at which I do it. Boards I resolder don’t
go bad weeks, months or years later, like the original
Pio board has done. And like those resoldered by many
DIYers have done. When I resolder that board, I bring
it to the level the other boards in there are already
at - continuous non-problematic use from then on.
There are many boards in there, yet THIS one is the
only one with the problems. This was due to an
inadequate solder flow job way back when the unit was
originally produced. I cure that problem permanently.

DIYers can do it too, as long as they have the
comprehensiveness, dedication, persistence and patience
it takes to do it to the level at which it needs to be
done. Not everybody has that.

costs. Hint - it costs less than getting a new board
from Pioneer and having a local Pioneer authorized
facility install it for you.

Samsung HLR6167 keeps flickering on bright scenes


Try turning off your Energy Saving option. (mine is in Menu --> Setup --> Energy Saving).  See if that helps.

Screen flickering


Does it stop or does the problem dissapear if the brightness and contrast are reduced, If it does, a common problem with the conventional CRT TV`s was the capacitors in the power supply. Basically, they dry out and that`s when the problems start. In some cases if it`s really bad, you can hear the power supply twitching as the voltage starts to drop on the secondaries. if you are hearing a click like the stove is because the lamp balast is trying to power on the lamp,

TV has distortion very small on top and bottom which will flicker


This tv has two common problems:
in the power supply (set does distotions and shakes a lot etc very unstable until the set cannot work at all).
powerfully color gets back with a deep clean in the reflexion area. I'm sorry this job is for a technician, The set is so intricate for those two problems that any bad movement in this precision job could send the tv straight to wherever is bad.

I would suggest either the Focus block or the RED CRT drive board either one of those items could cause the symptom. A defective CRT could also, but a shorted CRT doesnt usually go back to being normal

Hi,
1st set Brightness and Contrast settings to 50% at tv menu.
You need to cover 2 CRTs with any thing like thick paper while adjusting 3rd CRT.
For example, lets adjust Red CRT G2 volts, Select audio-video input 1 and cover green and blue lens with paper note-book and rotate Screen control up to level where you see retrace lines on projection screen, now decrease screen volts (G2) so retrace lines disappear and projection screen should be blank.
Now do same process with green and blue adjustment while other lenses should be covered.
Im not sure I conveyed it to you properly or not because English is not my 1st language.

It sounds as if you have a grid to anode short that is inconsistent. I would try to get the warranty company to just go ahead and replace all three tubes and be done with it. But, this is only my opinion, and past experiences with these sets. An aside; the more brightness level you ask of the tubes, the more this can be aggravated, as a general rule. Try different sources and program content and see if this is the case. Those scenes with more luminance (brightness) will stress the tubes more than low-level or dark scenes. See if that helps...accordianman

KP51ws500 turns green and shuts itslelf off


There may be several causes but, one is that when any color gun is being over driven, the Sony shuts down the gun to protect it. Try this. Remove the front of the set by removing the two screws from each lower corner. Next remove the black panel held on by 5 or 6 screws. Now you should see a panel with 6 potentiometers on it. Turning the ones on the bottom row CCW reduces the drive. Turn the color down and if all the guns stay lit, SLOWLY turn them up until you get the color balance that you like.

Picture Brightness Flickers


could be one or more of three things.
1.could be the crt itself.(sony had a bad bunch of crts for this model)
2.could be the vertical ic on crt board.
3.could be the focus block
in my experience solutions 2 and 3 are more common....
