Hello I have a 2006 Ford Five Hundred, a wrench looking symbol has popped on when I am driving up hill. And when coming back down my RPM's have gone crazy and I have stopped the car, turned it off and when I turn the car back on it resets itself.Runs like a champ. Here recently the check engine light has come on while the care was driving great. After turning the car off/on again it resets itself until a few miles down the road. Took it to advanced and the code that came up was transmission control performance and range??? What is wrong with my car? This only happened evertime I was driving up to the Appalachian Mountains from the city but now just driving around town it has started doing it. Any advise??

You have a transmission control unit problem unfortunately and I'll warn you - it's not cheap. Your description describes it to a "T". It will reset itself to "LIMP" mode (short distance drivability) and will only reset so many times. You need to take to Ford and have trans control unit replaced. (PS bring your wallet - sorry)

2005 ford 500 with 6 speed seems to be in 2nd or 3rd gear it doesnt shift ever and will only go 58 mph or 4000 Rpm
Have code checked . A reputable transmission.shop will check this for you and advise you what you have to do to get it fixed.

I suggest check the easy things first. Vacuum lines, could cause a lean condition, fuel filter restricting the fuel flow lean condition. Carefully clean throttle body with proper cleaner. I'm a shade tree mechanic but these simple things work sometimes. You didn't mention if you have the cvt trans. If you do and you are going 75 80 on the highway coming to a hill will cause it to race that high. Then when the hill is crested it will slow down, I don't like it either but it is the nature of the beast. I often cancel the cruise on big hills on the highway so it doesn't do that.

Ford five hundred 2006 the odometer is similar to movie matrix, is crazy for only 10 second, and back to normaly and tha rpm go down and tempeture and gas , five or six light intruments on whats is this....
I have seen the coil on plug units in these vehicles when they start to go bad they can cause some crazy things like the temp gauge going to full hot and then back to normal and other things like that. it is hard to tell which coil with out the vehicle in front of me sorry i cant give you more info than that.

if the engine lite is on take it to autozone or advance auto theycan plug into the engine and it will give out codes what may be wrong with your car i wouldnt be driving it you could be damaging you trany

While driving the speedometer, the brake light and the abs light comes on the speedometer stop working on my 2006 five hundred
I had this same problem with my 2006 Ford Five Hundred. The instrument gauges would all fail and go to zero for a few seconds and then come back on as if nothing happened. During this issue, the reverse lights and "idiot lights" would also come on.

Everyone told me it was bad cluster gauges, so I replaced them and it was not the problem.

There were several cracked/broken wires leading from the main computer of the vehicle to the charging system. The delearship found the broken wires and it cost me $ 190.00 to have it fixed and the car now runs great, no more failure of the gauges.

the 'wrench' symbol is a service light or possibly an engine managment symbol. if the car 'kinda' drive of a fashion then its computer has dropped onto 'limp home' mode and ur car needs to be put onto a diagnostic fault finder at a garage.
