Remove your Canon printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software which is downloaded fromt he website or from the disc.Only then you must connect the Printer which will be detected and installed. Check printer properties to see the ink levels.
Use head cleaning before a test is taken .

Microsoft publishes this Hardware and Software compatability list with each new Operating System they release. MS encourages upgraders and new computer purchasers to review this list so they will not be surprised when something doens't work.

if Vista and 7 is unsupported by the printer manufacturer, you are pretty much out of luck. If Vista and 7 say the printer is unsupported or un certified, run the manufacturer software if you want.
You doult run in emulate mode ... but for as cheap as printers are these days, why would you want to run in that mode?

Did you upgrade the computer from Windows XP to Windows 7? If so, did you uninstall the driver before you did the upgrade? The old driver files may be causing the problem.
