Your chainsaw bar is moving back into the housing which makes it reduce the tension on the chain. You might have a bad fitting to the housing or too much grease on it. The tension screw might be missing it's spring that keeps it from changing the setting.

Need replacement chain for remington 14inch, EL-1 and remington LNT Limb N' Trim 8. Could you provide me with current replacement chain information for both?

Hi jvaltha,

Here is a website that carries the chain for your EL-1 saw: The part number is a replacement for the original chain, which Remington must not offer any more.

That same site also carries a chain for your LNT 8 saw, but there are different subcategores, LNT1, LNT2, and 8A and B. I'll paste the address for the page where you have to choose your option:

FYI, You don't need to buy a remington chain to fit your saws. Just buy a chain that is the right length and matches the rest of the specs on your chain, the pitch etc. .050,.025, and so many teeth per inch and so forth. Then you can buy locally.

Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up...keeps me working. Thanks,

Handie Andie

Saw works but stops when I begin cutting a limb. Model # 104316-04 Thank you in advance. Joe Alcamo

Hi, make sure the chain is not on too tight, It should lift from the bar about a quarter inch. Also if there is a chain brake make sure that it is disengaged. If the chain stops but the saw is revving high then there may be a worn out clutch that needs to be replaced. Finally make sure the limb that you are cutting is not binding the chain under its' own weight.

What's the best way to use my 16 in electric saw to cut off tree limbs?

This is somewhat subjective. Eveybody does it a little different. If you are cutting limbs from a tree, start an undercut about where you want the limb to fall free of the tree. Use the upper edge of the chain to cut it about a fourth of the way through. Then start from the top of the limb over where you made the undercut.

Don't operate the saw upside down, but it can be run to either side as well as upright. Use regular bar/chain oil for lubrication available from home centers, hardware stores, and saw dealers. To adjust the chain, loosen the side cover nuts (screws) somewhat, and adjust the chain tension screw CW until the chain pulls up to the lower bar edge, yet allows the chain to be pulled by hand. Tighten the mounting and check it often as you use it to prevent the machine from throwing the chain off. Parts for these machines are difficult to find as the company has gone out of business. Make sure to keep the chain sharp and properly filed especially if you are cutting dirty brush and limbs. Hope this helps!

Where can I order parts for my 16 inch electric Remington saw.

Usually any where that repairs lawn mowers, snowblowers, and chain saws or places that sell them like Sears.

Craftsman 16 inch cain saw sprocket wont turn

Sounds like the sprocket could be stripped. If so, then you would need to replace the sproket. I suggest you contact Master Parts at 800-466-1446 or online at They may be able to help you.

There are one or two large nuts on the chain side. There is also a screw adjustment on the front where the bar or chain guide meets the saw. You loosen the nuts a bit (so that you can move the bar). Then you back the screw out to allow the bar to move back into the saw enough for you to put the chain back on the bar in the guide slot. Then you tighten that screw to the point that you can still push the chain around the bar (wear gloves) and there is very little slack under neath. Then you tighten the nuts. As you tighten them, pull up on the "nose" of the bar.

Make sure you keep oil in the reservoir and oil a lot as you cut. Keep the chain adjusted, they stretch as you use them. RTFM
