Question about Computers & Internet

My dvd player worked fine until I mistakenly inserted a bluray dvd. Now dvds will only have video - no sound. And, there's no sound at all for cds. How do I get audio for dvds and cds again?

Assuming that this is an entertainment center (TV, stereo) DVD player:
It seems likely to me that at some point, the sound cables were accidentally loosened. Double check that the sound cables are plugged in on both sides. They will probably be 2 plugs, one white and one red.
Check to make sure the volume is turned up.
Failing all of these, it may be possible that the added weight of the Blu-Ray (Blu-rays are heavier than DVDs) may have caused some damage internally and the unit either needs repair or replacement.

Assuming that this is a computer DVD drive:
Check the Windows volume control by left-clicking on the speaker symbol next to the clock in your task bar. Push the slider all the way up. You should hear a sound. If not, there is a problem with your speakers or sound card; either way, the appropriate component needs repair or replace.

If you do hear a sound, but still no CD or DVD audio, I would suspect that your computer expects an analog sound link for DVD and CD audio. Inside the computer, look for a small black connector that is loose on one end, but plugged in on the other. If you find one, one side needs to be in the back of the DVD drive, and the other needs to be attached to the appropriate socket on the motherboard or sound card.

Failing all of these, it may be possible that the added weight of the Blu-Ray (Blu-rays are heavier than DVDs) may have caused some damage internally and the unit either needs repair or replacement.

Hi,

Want to play my sounds through my tv or bluray

This unit has HDMI out so if you can connect it to your TV with an HDMI cable it should carry both Audio and Video. You say that it won't play DVDs so it makes me think you might have a bad player that you will have get replace through warranty. If you have it connected to your tv and you see some form of welcome screen come up when you power on the DVD player but it won't play discs I would exchange it. As far as other codec are concerned, it says that WMA and other formats are "available". This seems to mean that they are not pre-loaded but the device is capable of using them after some process is followed to install them. I can't tell from their site if the player has internet capabilities or not. One spec said that it has wireless but no other details. If you can connect it to the internet then I would guess the menu would have a way to update it through the internet adding in the new Codec other wise you might have to download them from another computer and put them on a usb drive to install them.
I hope this helps. Good luck

Portable dvd player will play music cds but not video dvds

Chances are, your DVD player uses one laser to read CDs, and a different laser to read DVDs (since Cds and DVDs are read at different wavelenghts of light). If the DVDs you're trying to watch work properly in other DVD players, it probably means that the DVD laser is dirty, damaged, or burned out. Though you can try cleaning the laser (use Google for suggestions on how to do this, or check the Audiovox website), you will most likely have to get the DVD player repaired, or buy a replacement. Many of the newer CD/DVD players sold today use a single combination laser, which reads both CDs and DVDs, which means that when the laser fails, it will not work at all. Wish I had better news for you, but I guess that the only consolation you have is that your Audivox player still works with CDs...
