Pardone Jo ablo un pocito espagnol... jo practicar mi espagnol con mi amigo Marcelo ha ha!... First do not atempt any thing with the drive... it probably has some bad sectors or file corruption, you must ask for the help of a qualified technician to RECOVER YOUR DATA on the drive, a good software to use is FILE SCAVENGER in a Windows base system or DDRESCUE in a Linux base system, just for information NEVER UNPLUG A DRIVE without using the safe removal option in Windows or Linux...

If there is nothing important on the drive than go ahead and format it, (you will lose everithing on it) but it will correct the corruption...

Hasta la proxima amigo!

Your drive may be failing. i would try plugging it into another computer to back up ur data and and then format it. but this sounds alot like a failing drive in which i also experienced. also try changing the usb port you use and dont use one from a usb hub. do it directly inot the computer.

Can i format device without deleting content on hard disk

You cannot format any disk without losing everything. When you format a drive you are essintally bringing it back to the state of it's first use. If you can, transfer the data to another storage device until after the format.

Good day, My Lenovo Thinkpad USB hard drive 320GB is not recognised by my laptop and other laptops i have tried it on, after punching in my password and the light goes green.

Try finding the driver software for your portable hard drive, it may have come with a disk that contains this software or you might have to download it from the manufacture's website.

My Seagate portable 320gb external hard drive fell on the floor now my computer and laptop don't see it( won't let me get in to the hard drive) , how do I fix this , Important files on it Help please

Since this external hard drive is USB powered and felt on the floor, you could have a broken USB connector or interface card, both located inside hard disk case, you should contact Seagate technical support or repair service, or if you have electronics skills, you could open and check hardware by yourself.

I have a 320gb toshiba external hard drive, i've been using it around 3 years without any trouble. A few days ago i lost the cable connecting it to the PC. I bought a few cables but no use. Doesn't...

Hi there,

This is because there is a connection problem between the external drive and the computer. If you have changed cables to no avail, you can open the casing of the external drive where you will find the hard disk inside. Unplug the two cables connected to the harddisk and replug it after a minute. Then try again. If it still does not work, then you need to buy just a usb enclosure and plug the harddisk there to be able to use it again.

Hope this helps. Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a 320gb WD hard disk and it was working normally but few days ago when i plug it, it could not work. ( the light is on but there is no spinning sound)

Seems to me a defective interface circuitry.
These devices have a USB-to-SATA interface inside their enclosure. If you can find another enclosure with a similar interface (or buy a new enclosure), disassemble your hard disk enclosure, get the hard drive out & attach it to the interface in the other enclosure & see if it works.

Another possibility is that the interface could be fine, but the hard drive itself died. To test this possibility, try attaching the hard drive directly to a PC. Since the hard drive is a SATA drive, you will be able to do this easily.

Disk no longer powers up

You may have a faulty power adapter, you need to check if it has +12volts & +5volts with a multimeter. You might be able to borrow a power adapter to test the drive before you pull it apart.

To test the hard drive.
Remove the hard drive from the case and connect it directly to the IDE cable (or SATA cable) and the power connector inside your computer. Depending whether the drive is on a IDE cabe on its own, then the jumper can be set to either Master or Slave.
If the drive is on the same cable as your existing hard drive then the 320Gb drive should be jumpered as a slave drive.

When you boot up your computer check the BIOS to see if it detects the 320Gb drive, if OK then let it boot up into Windows.
If you then click on My Computer you should see your C: drive as well as your 320Gb drive (might be D: drive). You should be able to Explore/view the files on this drive, if so the drive is OK then the power adapter or the hard drive USB box is faulty.
