Most external drives run on USB 2.0 these days and internal ones connect to your SATA connection on your motherboard. Therefore the SATA is much faster so if transfer speed is your concern go with the internal.

This really does not meter much. I mean dont get me wrong dont buy something very very cheap because that usually means trouble. Depending on how big you want it to be that how price will differ. Most used ones would be: Western Digital(WD), Seagate, Maxtor and some less used would be Dell, Hitachi and others. There are few places you can buy these: online would be like newegg.com, tigerdirect.com overstock.com sometimes. Stores would be like bestbuy, officemax, staples and even walmart and target. Hope this helps.

I am trying to install a new hard drive to my insprion 1501 laptop & don't know how to do it...

Ascertain that the hard disk is an external or internal device usually specified on the manufacrturers manual or as logos indicated on device. An external disk device usuallly is plug and play enabled. Extesion cables allows to connect from device to the computer from which would derive functionality soon after processis achieved. The computer is capable of performing on dual drives only with the dafualt and external as substitues. For example, a broken computer default disk is capable of acquiring connectivity with an external disk. However, a broken internal disk is unable to perform without replacing the broken once with another internal disk. Alternately, an internal device would require extracting the computer default disk for the new replacement to take effect

My desktop model is Compaq SR5213 with 250G harddisk. Recently, I would add a new internal hard disk (3.5", 1 TB), is it possible? As I don't want to buy a external hard disk. thanks

You can add 1 TB hard as additional to 250 GB Hard disk. You did not need to buy a external hard disk. Both hard disks will work together and make total hard disk space- 1.25 TB.

Can a secound hard drive be put in a Toshiba Satellite P205D-S7802

Yes if you want to add a second external hard drive and NO if you want to add an internal one. Hope I have answered your question. There is no space inside to add a second hard disk, unless it is an external hard disk.

do you have a recovery disk for the internal hard drive? this is the disk that came with pc.your internal HD is important this have been wiped (you have no OS) . get your internal back in order........do you have a receipt that says you purchased a 300gb (not 3gb) take it back get your money or the right external... once you are able to use the pc double check the external hard drive

My pc tells me that I'm running out of hard drive

You can use either.

You can also use external portable hard disk, you can move all your software and stuff to it.

Better would be installing a new operating system to new hard **** with larger capacity, it will make your system fast.

You can also fit hard disk in your computer PC cabinet, you will just need to set it as "Slave" or secondary hard disk, to do this, setting is available on the hard disk.

Segate 1TB not working with Windows 2003 Server

Is this an internal disk, or an external backup device? Two possible routes:-

Internal disk:-
Ok first thing: Does the BIOS see the drive? If not, try flashing the Server's BIOS to the latest version. Check that the system will support disks >500Gb. Try turning on LBA in the BIOS. It shouldnt affect it, but has been known to.
If its not showing here, its either faulty, dodgy cables, or not supported.

If its visible in the bios, great. Make sure you have at least one and preferably all the service packs installed. Gold (RC) only supports 500Gb drives.
Make sure you have Chipset drivers installed for the mobo. If its visible in the disk management console, then create a small disk, NTFS.

External backup device:-
Either you will need to install the software in 'compatibility mode' for xp, OR
dont use their software at all. Just plug the disk in, and it should appear as a removable device. Then use the windows backup tool to create a backup file on the external disk, and run a backup using that.
