Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TRV608 Camcorder

1 Answer

I have a Sony Camcorder CCD-TRV608 NTSC. When I turn it on it shows error code E:61:00. Is this fixable and is it worth fixing cost wise. What does E:61:00 mean. What is the code saying in laymens terms. I live in Maine near Portland, Maine. Is there an Authorized Sony Repair Center in Portland, if not where is the closest one providing this can be economically fixed vs getting a new camcorder. Thank you, Dave Payette

I tried what you suggested and still have E:61 error. Would it be worth directing a blow drier on low into the cassete chamber to try and dry it out? If I have to send it out is it worth the cost of having it repaired vs getting a new camera which will be expensive. I purchased this Sony TRRV608 in April, 2003.

    Please advise asap.

    Thank you,

    Dave Payette

The specific definition of your Sony TRV608 error code E:61:00 is "Difficult to adjust focus. Inspect the lens block focus reset sensor."

This could mean you have foreign material inside your camera, or a solid-state failure of some kind. Both of these will require servicing at an authorized sony repair center.

That said, another common cause of your E:61:00 error code is moisture inside your video camera. This causes condensation inside the lens and prevents the auto-focus from working, which generates the error.

Therefore I recommend removing the battery, opening the tape transport and placing the unit where it can gently dry out, such as close to a warm air vent. Give it a day in this position to ensure you've dried it out as much as possible before having it serviced.

I hope that helps.

I'm sorry for the difficulties you're experiencing as the Camcorder is generating beeping sound. Based on the information you have provided, it seems that the issue is with the cassette drive mechanism.

I suggest that you reset the Camcorder and check the operation. To reset the Camcorder, please press the reset button shown in the below picture. Make sure that the camcorder is turned ON when pressing the reset button.

If the issue persists, please perform a manual power reset by following the steps:

1. Turn off the camcorder. 2. Disconnect AC power adapter. 3. Remove the battery pack. 4. Move the POWER switch to the CAMERA position for 15 seconds. 5. Move the POWER switch to the OFF position. 6. Reconnect the AC power adapter or reinsert the battery pack. 7. Turn on the camcorder.

If the issue persists after power resetting, the tape mechanism may have to be changed. However, it is not economic to fix this old Camcorder by replacing the tape mechanism. The best possible option is to get a playback device for your old tapes, play it and connect the A/V output to the A/V input of the Computer and use Windows Movie Maker to capture the recordings.

Alternately, you may purchase an 8mm to VHS adapter to playback those tapes in regular VCR. The below link shows the one you need.

Thanks for understanding. Please let me know if you require further clarifications.

My camera won't play a tape. I get error code C:31:22. Most recent video footage has sound but no picture. Can't get it to play a cleaning tape.

The C31 indicates that a motor is not running/turning. This is not a DIY repair. In many cases, a belt has broken or slipped and needs to be replaced. In others, the motor itself is defective. In either case, the unit needs service including an alignment. Check with Sony for the repair cost. I believe that they have a fixed price for the repair which includes parts and labor.

Tape won't eject from CCD-TRV608

There is a little plastic piece on the tape and it is getting stuck, you have to maually move this piece, witha paper clip or something else. it might break the piece off, but that is the only way I know to get it out.
