Question about Garden

1 Answer

I am trying to find out what happened with my Porter Cable compressor. A couple of weeks ago I fired the compressor up and began to hear a air leak right around 60 - 70 psi. I was able to remove the plastic shroud and found that the leak was comming from a small pin hole in the cylinder head, which looks like it was put there on purpose. Has anyone expierenced this problem in the past?

Sounds like it could be a bad head gasket.

The little compressors were not built for continuous duty. The pump probably seized, or the motor burned up, or both.

No regulated pressure - check valve hose gets extremely hot- hear leak under the black housing on PC c2002

I have seen the hoses develop a leak right where they exit the metal tube from the pump. The bad part is that you have to pull the pump apart to repair it. Here is a diagram so you can see what you have.

I just purhcased this air compressor and cannot get any pressure to bulid in the tank. Even when the drain valve has been closed, there is still air being released. Any thoughts?

This a new machine correct. Did you let it run with the valve open for the 15 minitues this seals and lubes the pistion Ihave the same machine and i know how noise it is aswmeing the pump is pumping there are 3 other paces it could be leaking. The blow out valve the regulator or the inlet hose if the drain is closed. You are going to have to run your hands around the the regulator area and the hose something must be leaking and you won't be able to hear it. Air Leak From Pump Head on Porter Cable C2001 Pancake Compressor

The real question is where exactly is the leak coming from. Compressors have a pressure release valve designed to let the pressure off of the compressor motor so it can start when there is pressure in the tank. This valve is often the culprit and fairly easy to replace. You can order it direct from porter-cable online. Just in case double check the drain petcock sometimes these get worn and won't close completely and can easily be over looked when trouble shooting.

Brad nailer not firing nail...can hear brief air noise upon pulling the trigger

Porter cable makes a number of brad nailers (18 gauge) that very quickly suffer from the problem that you are having. You did not mention the model number of your gun but if it is one of these, (bn125a, bn200a, ns100a) kit # 60061 will fix the problem. It costs between 25 and 30 dollars. Google that part number or order from Dewalt owns the porter cable brand. Before you order the kit, check that the driver blade is not bent and stuck. The driver should travel freely down the cylinder. When you install parts, use Danco silicone grease to lube (availabel at Lowes in the plumbing department) If your model # is different from those mentioned above, please email me and I will recommend a repair.
