Question about KitchenAid KHMS155LSS 1000 Watts Microwave Oven

2 Answers

Kitchenaid vented microwave KHHS179LSS-5 surface light is blinking on and off. Started a couple of weeks ago. Thought I was forgetting to turn the light off but realized it was not me. Went to the control panal and adjusted it all the way to dim which turned it off. After a day it started blinking on and off real fast and beeping....same beep you get when you manually turn it off. Unplugged hoping it would reset but that did not work.

I stated at the end of my question that I had already performed a "hard reset" by unplugging the microwave and that did not work; the light continues to come on by itself. Also, this microwave has no dial for setting the time. All functions are performed via an electronic keypad.

I don't fee that your first "expert" is at all familiar with my microwave considering he has advised me to reset the time by turning the dial. All functions on this microwave are accessed through an electronic keypad; no dials. Also, I did mention that I had unplugged it and that did not solve the problem.

I have removed the top grill and the one screw holding the keypad. You have directed me to slide the keypad up to unlock it. I don't seem to be able to slide it upward. There are two very small tabs, one on each side near each corner of the top of the pad, preventing it from being pushed upward. I am afraid to force it as I do not want to break anything. I tried gently pulling it outward to free the tabs, but that does not work either.

Hello

This sounds like your keypad has been shorted, maybe during a rainstorm here is a quick fix that always solves the problem

Unscrew the 2 screws in the top vent grill and remove it.

Unscrew the 1 screw above the computer keypad, then slide it up to unlock it and it will hinge down, revealing the computer circuit board behind the keypad.

Put a sheet of foil into the large ziplock bag and seal it up.

Then tape it to cover the whole circuit board in the back of the computer. You may have to let the wires stick out of the middle of your foil covering. The ziplock is to keep the metal foil from short circuiting anything on the computer, and the foil protects the circuit board from the small amount of leaking microwaves inside.

Lock the keypad back up and plug in the microwave to test it before screwing everything back together.

If this doesn't work then you have to replace the keypad's circuit board, this is normally quite expensive

Good luck

Hi,

Press the "Off/Clear' button to cancel anything on the display, and reset the microwave. This is a soft reset and will simply get you out of any program you have started. Press it when the cooking complete reminder appears on the display.
Perform a hard reset. Pull the plug out of the wall power supply, and wait a moment. Plug the microwave back into the wall power supply to reset any anomalies with the microwave's memory. You will need to reset the time of day if you perform a hard reset.
Reset the time of day. Press the "Clock" button, and turn the dial to set the hours. Press the dial to enter. Follow the same procedure for the minutes and a.m. or p.m. Press the "Start" button to start the clock. This should help fix the problem.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

The problem is with the fuse or the high voltage transformer that is bad and needs replacement. Replacing the fuse will cost you under $100 from a professional and getting the transformer replaced will cost you around $200. As the unit has very high voltage inside so we don't recommend that this should be done by the user. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Rattling, crackling type noise just started and is constant when microwave is running.

A couple of months ago my microwave started making crackling, rattling and grinding sounds everytime i used it and i thought it was going to break down. It turned out one of my children must have spillled or overflowed something with a clear liquid because the micro did not look dirty but there was a crunchy substance under the wheels of the turntable. Once i cleaned this up totally the noises all went away.

Microwave exaust fan starts on its own

There's a humidity sensor in this microwave oven that turns on the fan automatically if it senses an excess amount of humidity (steam from cooking for example) to possibly protect humidity or moisture from building up inside the unit.

Replace the buttons on a kitchenaid microwave Khhs179lss-5

First, you need to uninstall the microwave (MW) from the cabinet by removing the screws that hold it in place at the top. Open the cabinet doors above the MW to locate the screws.
You will need someone to help you at this point in removing the screws and dropping the MW down. Be sure and unplug the MW before you remove the screws.
Next, you need to take the cover/shell off by locating and removing screws A/R. They are mostly across the back and side bottom.
From there on out, you should be able to methodically find and locate the various fasteners that will get to the button pad.

One surface light bulb on GE Profile microwave keeps burning out

I have the same problem. The left one burns out within a couple of hours use, the other one lasts a couple of months and is then gone. This pattern has repeated over 8 years. I replace them every now and then and then just go without until I get the urge again to fix it. Maybe smaller lower wattage lamps are worth trying...

KitchenAid KHHS179lss, fried magnitron?

If your magnetron was shorted, the unit would not heat at all.

The sound of a shorted magnetron is usually a loud hum-- but no or very little smell and no smoke.

Components in the High Voltage section -capacitor, diode- give problems if they short out.
