If it stops during the format process, it's quite possible that the Hard disk is experiencing terminal failure. Try using a live CD like "Ultimate Boot CD" to diagnose the hard disk (try formatting, surface scanning) and see if that helps. If that is the case, the disk will have to be replaced with a new one.
Hope that helps!

What is the command prompt in the HP Pavilion a6037c Vista recovery partition that allow me to type the command to recover to the factory settings.

You can access the HP Recovery Manager software using the "F11" command during the boot-up process. The Recovery Manager is a preinstalled utility that can help you resolve issues on your computer system that affect its proper function, such as viruses, system errors or hardware corruption. Restore your computer only as a last resort, since all the files stored on the hard drive will be lost during the process. The restore process can also be helpful in wiping the computer clean before passing it along to another user.

Restart the computer. Press the "F11" key when the "BIOS" messages appear during the start-up process to open the "HP Recovery Manager." This step must be completed before Windows has a chance to load. Click "System Recovery" and click the "Next" button. Click "No" in the Microsoft Restore window that appears and click "Next." Click "Next" in the "System Recovery" window to initiate the restore process. The hard drives will be reformatted and the computer's software returned to the factory settings. Click "Finish" to restart the computer with the original operating condition in place.

Restoring your laptop to factory settings can take up to an hour to perform, depending upon the type of laptop and operating system on your machine. Prior to performing a system recovery, you should remove any external peripherals, such as ExpressCards, PC Cards, and USB-connected printers and hard drives. Turn on the laptop. Press the "F8" key until the "Advanced Boot Options" screen appears. Select "Repair Your Computer" using the arrow keys. Press the "Enter" key. Choose your "Language," then "Next." Login with an administrator-level username and password. Click "OK. Select "Dell Factory Image Restore," then "Next." Click on "Finish" after the computer has concluded the factory restoration. b> Restore on an HP b> Insert the HP recovery disk. Restart the computer, and press the "F11" key. Press the "F" key to "reinstall factory settings." If your computer's operating system is damaged, you may only see "perform a full system recovery" as an option. In this case, press "R." Insert any disks if prompted by the restoration program. Otherwise, permit the computer to restart as needed. b> Restore Via Disks (Generic) b> Insert the "Recovery Disk" or "System Recovery Disk." Everytime I open My G62 laptop after a few minutes \it will hang.I want to reformat it..How will I do the reformatting?

Hi and Welcome to Fixya!

I would not really recommend a format if the issue with your machine is hang. You can try though to just reset the machine to its original settings. Here's how it works:

1. Reboot, and repeatedly press F10 at the HP logo until the recovery screen appears.
2. When the recovery screen appears, press "Next" and then "Yes" to perform a non-destructive recovery (all data saved). After the recovery is finished, the laptop will reboot.

Or to perform a destructive recovery, (***This will erase all your unsaved data!***)
Click "Advanced" and then "Yes".
After the recovery is finished, the laptop will reboot.

Or
Reboot, and repeatedly press F11. Follow on screen prompts.

Hope this helps!

Error: 0XC000000C; What's the solution?

My 0xc000000c problem seemed to result from disk surface damage on the restore DVD. I burned a new copy of the restore DVD and the restore then proceeded normally.

Using a DVD copy program that provides an aggressive read method to extract data from damaged disks might help you the most.

I cannot find my XP disks and I am not sure my laptop came with installation disks. I want to reformat my laptop is there a way I can do that without the disks?

To reformat is to wipe everything off of your computer's harddrive. If you do not have the Recovery Disks, or an Installation Disk, you will be sitting there with a blank harddrive, and no operational computer.

I just wanted to explain that.

Most people want to restore their computer to what it was like from Day 1, when it came from the factory. For your Toshiba this is, "Recovering the original factory image"

Before you start, you may want to save any documents you have, in your My Documents folder. (My Pictures, My Music, My Video, Documents)
Burn your personal documents off to a CD, or DVD disk.
AFTER you restore back to the original factory image, they WON'T be there anymore.

Your Toshiba has a recovery partition on the harddrive.
Most computers do not have the Recovery Disks sent with them.
Saves the computer manufacturer money. They found that most users do not use the Recovery Disks, and would rather use a repair shop.

They also put the Recovery Partition on the harddrive. Plus the user is asked if they want to make a backup, (Recovery Disk), when they receive the laptop, and start it for the first time.
Problem is you are only asked once.

To recover back to the original factory image:
1.Laptop off. Press and hold down the 0 (Zero) key. Press the Power On button.

2.The Toshiba Recovery Wizard screen should appear.

3.Click on the empty circle to the left of -> Recovery of Factory Default Software.
(DO NOT click on Erase the Hard Disk!)
Click on Next

4.Click the circle for -> Recover to out-of-box-state
Click on Next

5.You'll see a warning message, "All data will be lost during the recovery process"

That's the data, (Information), you have in your My Documents folder, plus any programs you downloaded, or installed.
If they weren't there when the laptop came from the factory, they will be gone.
You know this, it's okay.

You are recovering, (Restoring), your laptop back to what it was like when it came from the factory.

Click on Next. This will start the recovery process. When it is finished a message will come up, and state that the HDD has been recovered. (HarDDrive)

Press on any key. You are finished.
