Question about Food Processors

Open Question

I bought a Cooksworth Signature food processor, when i turn it on all seems well, the motor seems to be running, however nothing is moving. Everything is secured properly, the motor sounds as i assume it should but the blade etc doent move. bought it in a closing down sale so ive nowhere to bring it back to, but would love to get it sorted, even if it meant taking it apart myself. Thnks for any advice offered.

SOURCE: Microwave not working

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and
disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

SOURCE: Microwave turns on, but no heat or turntable movement

The problem is that the magnatron is not getting power. Chance is that if could be a bolwn fuse inside the unit. If the fuse don't fix it then that leaves the charging diode, capacitor or the magnatron, or high voltage xformer of which without technical epertize I would not recomend attempting to replace. good luck

SOURCE: Turntable motor or support/coupler failure.

Isn't that actually an R1461A?

When you try to turn it by hand (as in the video) do you hear the motor whine? Is there resistance? Or does it just turn freely?

The hole in the turntable support should either be round with a flat side or a cross shape. If that's damaged, it won't work.

In some cases, the legs of the support get too hot and when the weight (food) is removed, they bend downward in relation to the hub.

I have solved this problem in the past by carefully heating the area where the legs meet the hub, using a gas stove flame or a torch.

Then I place it on a flat surface, weighted down so as to hold the legs so they will cool in the correct position.

If you have to do it more than once, the support should be replaced.

You can see if the motor is turning by removing the support and placing something wooden or plastic into the hole and see if it turns when you cook.

If you replace the support or motor, you should also replace the "packing" which is a rubber grommet.

You can find an exploded view here, and the parts list is here, but the best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

To replace the motor, you need to remove the bottom panel of the oven, then remove the motor screws.

SOURCE: Stopped heating food

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount (which are pretty simple problems to fix) or occasionally a problem on the control panel.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here onFixYa:.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts for many brands by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you may be able to download it here.

If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases in about a week or so.

Mine is older and works fine once I realized bowl has to be snapped into place before the cover and then the cover has to be locked in. This activates a small button at the base of the bowl that activates a safety switch.

What do I check to see why my food processor will not turn on?

Have you checked the fue in the plug?
It could also be a broken inside the main sheath near the plug or the processor. That's if something inside has not gone faulty.

I just go a foodnetwork 12 cup food processor and it will not turn the blade. The motor is on, everything is on right but it will not turn the blade.

The same thing happened to me. I took it back to Kohls. It was 1 year old and I only used it like 4 times. The motor would run but the blade wouldn't turn. Maybe because Kohls is busy this time of year, the Customer Service guy didn't even ask when we bought it. It was obviously last year's model because the color was white not the current black. Anyway, the FN Food Processor says they have a 2 year warranty so that could be route you could take also. I know this isn't REALLY fixing YOUR food processor, but it would fix your problem.

That's alot of bad outlets. Are you sure there's nothing wrong withe the processor? Just kidding. How long have you had this processor? Any chance of taking it back?
If not, try this. With the unit unpluggedput an attachment on that you can hold onto and try to rotate the motor. Not all are tested and sometimes the motor brushes are not making good contact. If you turn it manually you may get lucky and set them to work. If you get it running, chk with power after several turns, run it constantly for abot 5 minutes to seat the the brushes. Remember to have it unplugged when you have your hand on the attach ment. Good luck. Ned

Motor works but will not turn on

You can test the motor by plugging the food processor in, pressing the on switch and using a pen to press the dark grey or black button on top of the base of the food processor. As long as it spins, the motor is definitely good. Next, unplug the food processor. For the food processor to work, you need to have the work bowl, lid, and pusher sleeve all inserted - if one part of the work bowl is not attached, then the food processor will not spin the blade. Once all three pieces have been inserted, plug it in and turn it on. If the blade is still not spinning, then there is a problem with the element that runs from the back of the pusher sleeve down through the work bowl that triggers the motor button. In that event, you can go to Cuisinart's website and order a new bowl, lid, and/or pusher sleeve - if you see any obvious damage to one part, you can order just that one part. If it is not apparent which part is damaged, order the whole work bowl. The work bowl parts are expensive, so I would just write down the part numbers from Cuisinart's website and find them cheaper elsewhere. There is also a video on the website that shows you how to use the food processors - the first part of the video describes work bowl asssembly. Once you get this food processor working, it is going to last forever. Have fun!
