Question about Tomtom GO 700 GPS Receiver

Hi my tomtom go 700 will not switch on beyond the home screen, then a flashing red and white cross is permanently on the screen is this problem fixable ?

Sounds like you tried to upgrade and something went wrong.
If there is a reset button on the bottom or back that'll be your best bet. The red X means it cannot find the operating system but usually a hard reset will fix it.

Here is some more information for you to follow to guide you step my step. Device displays a white or red cross
If your navigation device displays a cross after you switch it on, it means that the TomTom application is not installed correctly.
Note: It is normal for the navigation device to show a cross while it is connected to the computer.

The solution depends on which TomTom software is used for updating. Check which software your navigation device uses for getting updates.
Devices using MyTomTom for updates
For navigation devices that use MyTomTom, reset your device.
Devices using TomTom HOME for updates

When TomTom is switched on a white cross on a red background flashes all the time This is after being on tomtom home.


Try to update your tomtom software. would this white cross mean that you have reached your destination? Can you post me the model of your tomtom that would be very helpful

U need just one original file from zour tomtom and that is ttgo.bif so keep that file safe and copy everything from working unit (even better with patched system) to your unit, !!!!! dont use TomTom Home !!!! just through drive (if its not there cant help), just possible that u need now maps activated for your unit, u can find info how to this anywhere,

730T - tomtom home hangs when checking for updates - mac


Hi - have had the same problem - if you look on the tomtom website and support they have a list and one is flashing red cross. You need to follow the steps to format the tomtom. I did this and it worked and it included the update. i havent reconnected since i have it working now. I think its a software problem with HOME. Make sure you do a back up on home and make sure you follow step by step. close HOME before you start to reformat and also in the preferences turn off the automatically connect to home when you plug into your computer or it keeps flashing up on the screen to correct. the only solution is to format it. i bought mine two days ago and the first one stuffed up so took it back for a replacement. this one worked when i turned it on but turned out the flashing cross appeared when connected to computer (i have a mac). good luck

TomTom GO 720 - flashing red circle with white cross on screen


Hi, I am back, just got the problem solved, I called their tech support at no charge (866-486-6866, Glen) , really good service.
First turn your firewall off (if you have one). You need to go into your 720 with the TomTom Home software and erase the downloaded software (with the remove items from my device) and reset the device (little reset button under the unit keep it pressed for 5 seconds), place it back in the cradle and restart your computer and than restart the 720 , bring the TomTom Home program up, and when the TomTom Home software in your computer restarts and detects the 720 it will tell you that you need to update the application, if it doesn't than you force the update by going to the add maps option, select items on my computer, select applications and press the add button, when done, go back and to device (option in top of your screen) and select disconnect device, restart your 720 and it should be back to life with the upgraded software.
