I have a Kenmore 70 Series dryer that started up then after a few minutes it quit altogether. Power is there, timer doesn't tick anymore like it used to (when you close the door but don't push the start...

Check for continuity of the thermal fuse located in the back next to the cycling thermostat (its white) You also need to make sure your breaker hasn't tripped or partially tripped. Try turning the breaker all the way off then back on. If those things are ok your next step is to check to make sure the belt isn't broken.

you need to open front panel or top, depends on brand and model...
you will see door switch there, to check you will need electrical meeter, unplug from power before opening it.
check continuity of switch, by pressing/depressing it.
if it's working than check start button switch if your model has it.

Whirlpool LEQ8000JQ - My timer ticks but the dryer will not run when start button is push.

More specifically, the timer can be heard running, starts and stops when door is closed/opened, so not likely to be the timer. You have a problem at the motor. A wire off a terminal, the switch on the motor, or the motor itself.

Timer ticks, but dryer does not run

Sounds like door switch. Open door and push on door switch. you should here a clicking noise. If you can open the top of the dryer. put the 2 wires together of the door switch. Make sure it is unplugged when doing this. Make sure you use electrical tape when you put it together. Temp fix. Get a new switch

I have a RES7745RQ electric dryer. The timer

HI, check the following to address this issue.

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power with a voltmeter or by plugging something else in.

2. Door switch / Door switch actuator lever
The dryer will not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.

Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch would not activate and the dryer would not start. Replace the lever, if broken.

Note: Door switch actuator lever usually comes with the door switch assembly and it is recommended to get the whole assembly since there is almost no price difference between the door switch assembly and just the lever. Check your model for more details.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

4. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

**The most common issue here will be a defective Thermal fuse, but if all is ok with the above stated areas, replace the start switch.

Dryer Won't Start

Make sure it has power. Then:Check the door switch. A little lever sticking down through top right of door opening. If it is not there you will need new door switch(sometimes the little lever breaks off). If it is there and does not click when you press it in you need a new door switch. if it clicks when you close the door then you have a bad thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is found by taking the back of the dryer off. The fuse is an oblong white plastic piece with 2 wires attached.

Thermal fuse part number 3392519

Whirlpool dryer won't start. replaced the door switch & the push button switch still won't start. the light works when door is closed. can hear timer ticking like always.

It sounds like you have lost a leg of power. Turn off both breakers, then back on. Then check the receptacle, the plug and then the wiring to the back of the dryer. This is likely where it is. There is a thermal fuse located under the top of the dryer. Easy to get to. Bypass it and if it works then, just replace it for about 15 dollars.

Faulty Start Button?

If the dryer doesn't even start to turn when you press the start button, then you have to look at a couple things; The start button itself, the starting relay or the safety circuit. You mentioned that there's a ticking sound... if this sound goes away when you open the dryer door but comes back again when the door is closed, then the safety circuit is working.

It could be the switch itself or the starting relay (if equipped with one). If you're mechanically capable, consider looking at the relay. See if the contacts are being pulled in when the start switch is pressed (DANGER: HIGH VOLTAGE). If it is, the start switch is OK.

Hope this helps.
