Have you updated the firmware? You can do so buy download it here and following the instructions. When updating the firmware you will lose any information that isn't stored to your memory card. Now the firmware itself doesn't address anything that you're describing, however it is an easy way to revert it back to a factory state. You will need an external memory card to update the firmware and all you have to do is follow the instructions on the site that I linked to above.

Prior to updating the firmware I suggest you unplug the battery. You can do this by gently prying the back off, which can be done using your fingernails and slowly working your way around the device until all the clips have been unhooked. The plug you're looking for is the one shown below in the lower left corner of the device just left of the battery (the big gray thing). It's the white plug with the red, white and black wires coming from it. Use a small screw driver or tweezers to work the plug loose as you don't want to exert to much force on the wires.

Leave it unplugged for 5 seconds before plugging it back in. Then continue with the firmware update.

The overall process is pretty simply even though it might sound intimidating. If you have any more questions let me know.

Hope this helps

Most tablets are still in the factory settings so if u have a professional to look at it he might be able to turn it on and u could then have him look at the charge thing.

Unlock cruz tabletT301 screen

I think you need to hard reset your tablet so that it can be use again. NOTE: THIS WILL DELETE YOUR PERSONAL FILES. You need to access the restore menu on your device. Get a paper clip and hit the reset button on the top of the tablet. As soon as you release the reset button hold the + vol button down. This will bring you to the menu you need. Select wipe and restore to factory defaults NOTE: THIS WILL DELETE YOUR PERSONAL FILES. Once its done reboot and it`s ready to roll.
Hope this helps.

In order to hard reset your tablet, the steps given below must be followed:

  • Ensure that the Samsung tablet is powered off.
  • Press the Power and the Volume Up button together till the device displays the start-up logo.
  • Once the logo is displayed, release the buttons and wait till the device enters the Android system recovery mode.
  • On the displayed screen, use Volume Down button to go to the wipe data/factory reset option (Volume Up and Volume Down buttons are used to highlight the displayed options on the Android system recovery screen).
  • Once the option is highlighted, press the Power button to select the option. (Pressing the Powerbutton in Android system recovery mode selects the highlighted option.)
  • On the next screen, press the Volume Down button multiple times till the Yes -- delete all user data option is highlighted.
  • Press the Power button to hard reset the Samsung tablet device while clearing the dalvik cache along with the process.

When turning n the cruz tablet, the word cruz pops up and goes away. then cruz flashes

First don't worry too much you're just stuck in a loop or have bad firmware (most likely). The fix is probably going to be easy but you have to do some things. Just follow the directions I give and that Velocity gives and you should have no problems in about half an hour.
Take out the top SD card. Put in in your computer or an adapter that goes to the computer.
Go to the cruz website and download the current firmware (http://cruzsupport.velocitymicro.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=814).
Even if you have updated the ROM something could have happened and it could be corrupted so replace it. Put that firmware on your sd card. Do not extract the zip file. Do not change its name. If the name changed (like if it has (01) at the end) delete the old file you downloaded and change the new one back to the old name.
Eject your sd card when you finish and put it in your tablet.
Press the top power button and the up volume button at the same time. Continue holding. You will see cruz but dont stop.. it'll flash kinda and it'll still say cruz.. keep effin' holdin'...
the robot shows up: you win! let go relax give it some time to freshen up. Have a cup of coffee and let it finish. Everything will be tidy and new when it's done.
the robot doesn't show up and the same thing that's been happening happens again: try pressing reset when it turns on (paper clip in that hole youll feel a button when you get it right). Keep pressing it the whole time it has power to try and get a hard reset. Do it like 2 or 3 starts and fails just for good measure.
then try to flash again (power and volume up).
if that doesn't work pull the back, unplug the battery and wait 30 seconds to a minute. plug it back in and try flashing the first time you start up. like don't press power hoping its going to turn on now. It won't. You have given it a clear quick access memory which may let you get to the point where you can flash without failing.
IMPORTANT: On the first time after the battery is plugged in hold power and up volume together and keep holding. This is important. If you press power it will recurrupt the RAM and you made the back lose and unplugged the battery for nothing.
If that doesn't work.. well it should. You're stuck in a loop that you should be able to pull out of. Go back the the beginning and make sure you have the new file you downloaded and the name is correct (its on the cruz support website).
If that's all done properly try the battery thing one more time. If it's still failing don't give up.. give it hell. I was stuck in a bad one going strait to white screen only being able to shut it off by pulling the battery and I was able to get it to flash (took about 30 tries). For the trying at this point you don't have to pull the battery just keep starting it with power and volume up pressed.
As long as you're not staring at a black screen you should be able to fix this.
Good-luck!

My Cruz reader will not turn on. It froze and shut off. I've pressed the "reset" button but it still won't work.

My mom's did the same thing. Try holding in the reset button and the power button at the same time for 25 - 30 seconds. release them both when you see the Cruz boot screen appear. It should be fine after that

Velocity Micro Cruz ereader screen freezes. The "desktop" icons are not reacting to touch or tapping.

Mine hasn't frozen (yet) but if this is a more or less "permanent" freeze there is a reset pinhole between the power button and the usb connector. If this is in intermittent problem, the only thing I can say is that the device is poorly designed, the screen is just not very responsive and the CPU chip must be under-powered so it is very slow to react. If you tap-tap-tap a lot on the screen or the power button you might be overloading the CPU. Mine seems to freeze from time to time but eventually "catches up" and then starts working again. Sorry, but I definitely put this product only a half step above the junk category. I also own an Ipod Touch and holy cow there is a world of difference in quality and performance between the two.

Oh yeah - you might try calibrating the screen but I doubt that it will help much. The "calibration" suggestion really seems like more of a distraction tactic to make new owners think they are really doing something cool to make it work better out of the box.

If you can still return the machine for a refund I suggest you do - lots of new tablets andf "readers" will be hitting the stores within a few weeks and Best Buy will be selling these for $50 just to unload them!

I turned the Cruz Reader off and I can not get it to turn back on. I tried to charge it but no light will come on. Any suggestions?

Taken from Velocity Micro Support Center:
What should I do if my Cruz device will not turn on?

If your Cruz device will not turn on or freezes, follow the steps below to resolve this:
  • Locate the Cruz RESET location between the Power Button and mini-USB port.
  • Using the straightened end of a small paperclip, insert it perpendicularly into the RESET hole and hold for 5 seconds.
  • Turn on your Cruz
If the steps above do not allow you to power on again, then continue with the steps below:
  • Remove the Cruz from the charger and eject the External SD card.
  • Place the Cruz face down on the desk, starting at the External SD slot, pull off the back cover of your Cruz.
  • In the lower left corner of the back of your Cruz, locate the battery power cable. Unplug the cable and replug it again.
  • Return the back cover to your Cruz and snap it into place.
  • Re-insert your External SD card and power on your Cruz.

Screen is frozen and wont respond to the touch

You can also try reseting it (use a small safty pin or paperclip in the reset hole) or remove the back cover and carefully unhook the battery from it's balance connector, wait a few minutes and rehook it back up and try pressing the power button. I am using my cruz tablet to write thus right now. Good luck!
