On Homelight 3816c what is the position position of chain brake when cutting

Easy enough to test which position is correct. With the saw not running of course, Try each position the one where the chain moves freely is the correct position. Most likely on this saw it will away from the bar (rearward).

Homelight service mamual for chansaw Ut 10560

If it is pouring out you can adjust it but if it is not bad dont worry about it. you want a lot of oil coming out of it that is what keeps the chain lubricated this is very important otherwise you will burn the bar up and that will not be good

Is it possible to get a manual for a chain saw from about 1970

Hi sann420...

It may be possible to get the user manual on line for an old chain saw like that.
There is some website around that has old user manual, but normally at a cost.
If you want to try to locate a manual for your old chainsaw, then you need to search the web the way that a pro does it...Keeps it simple.
Go to you google search box and put in the name of the maker of the saw
(as an example Homelight 16234 ) followed by the words "user manual"...The search will tell you if yours is available in the results, you might be very suprised.
Please take time to rate me

Change blade

all chain saws have a sprocket that the chain runs on this sprocket is what make the chain rotate on the bar. the bar is the long part that sticks out in front of the motor. you must remove the side cover of the saw to access the sprocket region of the saw. be sure the saw is unplugged and then remove side cover the bar is usually held in place by a couple of bolts. on gas saws these two bolts also hold the side cover in place and must be removed to replace the bar and chain. once you have removed the side cover look for bolts holding the bar in place. if you only want to change the chain then you may be able to only loosen the bolts or screws holding the bar in place.there should be a screw to adjust the bar forwards and backwards. this screw put tension on the chain so when you put a new chain on turning the screw will proberly tension the chain /do not overtighten the chain.
also be sure you put the new chain and blade on the same as the old one that comes off trying to cut with a chain that is on backward does not work. last note if you are replacing the blade because the old one is dull take the saw to a saw shop they can sharpen the exsisting chain and save you money.

Flywheel to mag. clearance

Ignition module gap
Place a business or index card between the fly wheel and coil, rotate until the magnetic attraction pulls everything tight together. Tighten the coil screws, rotate the flywheel until the attraction eases and remove the card. Ensure nothing contacts when flywheel is rotated.

Your fuel line may be pinched off where is routes to the carb.
Check and make sure that the vent in the fuel cap is clear so you are getting air in the tank

Spark to the plug?
Second line to body of saw is the vacuum from the lower 1/2 of cylinder

Replacing Remington Electric chain saw blade

Where the bar meets the body of the saw there is an adjustment lug that will either push the bar outward tightening the chain or may be retracted allowing slack in the chain. When backed off (loosened) sufficiently, the chain may be removed for replacement. In order to use this feature, however, there are two bolts that secure the bar to the body that must be loosened prior to any adjustment and tightened bach up after making adjustments to the chain. The above will be enough to remove and replae the chain. If you are taking off the bar (that the chain runs on), you will need to remove the two bolts that were just loosened for the chain adjustment (above).

POULAN CHAIN SAW MODEL 1420 ''Chain came off track

Chain is probably stretched. SAFETY FIRST. Electric saw, make sure power is unplugged. Gas saw, make sure sparkplug wire is removed. Remove the cover where the bar is attached to the saw. U should see an adjustment screw for chain tension and one or more bar lockdown screws. Loosen the lockdown screws and turn the tension adjustment screw to permit the bar to slide back toward the motor. Put the chain back in the bar track all the way around. Adjust the tension screw to tighten chain enough you can't pull it out of the track at any spot. Slide the chain by hand at least one complete revolution feeling for any rough spots. If it moves freely, turn the tension screw enough to tighten the chain properly. Correct tension should allow you to pull the chain appx. 1/16 to 1/8 inch from the bar. Tighten the lockdown screws, replace the cover. Rotate chain by hand a couple of revolutions again to check for smoothness again before starting the saw.
