192.168.1.1
If it has been changed at all by a tech etc. you can always check the address by clicking start, run, then typing cmd. Once a command window is open type in ipconfig/all. The default gateway is your router's ip address.

Typically your router's ip has to be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254 and the credentials admin / admin. In case the router's ip is modified you can do this simple tip in order to locate the new one:
Connect your computer with ethernet cable at the router and after the connection has been established, hit start - run - type cmd. At the new black window type ipconfig and hit enter. You will get the results for ethernet connection (in case of a laptop you will get the wireless connection too). The line for Default Gateway is the router's ip address.

Hi,

Step 1:
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.

Step 2:
Go to the Address bar and enter your router's IP address ("192.168.1.1" is the default IP of most Linksys routers) then press [Enter].

Step 3:
A new window will prompt for a User name and Password. Leave the User name field blank then enter your router's password ("admin" is the default password), then click OK.

Assuming you didn't change the default IP in the settings, it should be 192.168.1.1. Alternatively, you could also try 192.168.0.1.
Hope that helps.

Cant setup or connect to internet through router

Different ISPs require different configurations. If you have a Linksys router, such as the WRT54G, there are 2 ways on how you can configure it, either by running the Setup CD or by doing manual configuration. This particular router has its own web utility and you can access it by typing its IP addres on your web browser, ex. http://192.168.1.1. By default, it doesn’t have any username and its password is admin.

Once you’re inside the setup page, you can configure now the router for DHCP, PPPoE or STATIC IP settings. For DSL customers using a PPPoE account, some modem needs to be configured into BRIDGE MODE first and then the router will be set to PPPoE with the correct username and password (given by ISP). If your a DHCP account, modem doesn’t require any configuration. It will work with its default setting and the router would be set to DHCP. Once done, powercycle your devices to establish internet connection.

Reset your router and reconfigure your router as per the new modem settings or else you can contact your isp after the router reset.

Lost the install CD

hi,
it should be an ip conflict.I believe you are using both routers at same time which can give same ip address (as both routers ip range is same).hence by disconnecting one router(from network/power) will make your ip conflict resolved.
secondly there is no need of linksys installation cd as it will do more harm than good.routers dont need any software to run where as network adapters need drivers.if you have any further doubts ,you can directly post it.
thank you

Setup cd

You can setup the router even without a CD setup, if you know how to access the router setup page where you can do the configuration that will do the setup, But if you're not familiar with it better contact Linksys tech support so they can walk you through with the process on how to set it up without the CD this is the number 800-3267114.

Hope that helps.............

Public ip address

Im not sure if there is such a thing as a public ip adress. The ip address is automatically given out by your router. (192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.101 ect.)

Wrt54g router

Are you sure you need DNS, or default IP address for linksys router. If you need the default IP to reach the setup page in your router, it is 192.168.1.1. Username (blank) Password admin

From there, you can "RENEW" your DNS automatically.

Router issues

Hi Pzarek,

The first thing that comes to mind is that your Linksys modem is using the same IP address as the router and it's causing a conflict. The quickest way to find out if there is a conflict is to get into the administration setup on the router and manually change the IP address of the router itself (currently it's most likely 192.168.1.1 - change it to 192.168.1.250). Linksys has most of its devices that provide dynamic IPs set to 192.168.1.1 by default so I would suggest that.

To log into the router (assuming you have your computer plugged into the router):

Bring up Internet Explorer and type in 192.168.1.1 into the address bar.

When it asks for a username/password, type in 'admin' for the username and 'admin' for the password (without the quotes).

You can change the IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.250 on the first page that comes up.

If you're unable to access the setup, make sure the router is powered up and hold in the Reset button on the back for 30 full seconds. At that point the information provided will allow you to access it.
