Question about Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

I have a 1993 Honda Accord. Wired everything color for color to the new wiring harness. Plugged in the radio, turned the ignition to 'on' and got no power to the radio. The old harness had the red (ignition) and yellow (battery/memory) tied-in together. I did that, got power to the radio, but when I turn the key to 'off' I lose all radio memory and dash clock memory. No fuses are blown. Possible bad ignition switch?

It sounds like the 12v battery lead has an issue and thats why they tied them in together. Once you resolve that issue and re-wire properly you should be set.

I have 1993 honda accord im try to swap a 2000 honda civic radio but my honda accord all we have for speakers cables are red blue green yellow and white,i can't figure it out wich one goes were the 2000...

All cars with 4 speakers have 8 speaker wires (4 positive and 4 negative). The colors of the wires for these two cars are not the same. The only way to know which wire goes where is to get wire diagrams for both cars. Before cutting up your wire harness, check that the radio you're installing will bolt into your car and fit. Just swapping the mounting bracket may not work.

I was installing an after market Pioneer CD Player into a 1993 Suzuki Swift. I installed it with all the right wiring and everything was working fine with the stereo. Once I turned the headlights on, that...

The adapter harness for the radio is probably not wired correctly. I'll bet you also have no tail lights. You probably wired the harness so that the illumination circuit for the factory radio is wired to the wrong terminal of the new radio, thus the problem occuring when you turned on the headlamp switch. I have seen this many times when someone is trying to wire a radio adapter harness without having access to the factory wiring harness diagrams for the vehicle...the wire colors on the adapter harnesses don't allways match the wire colors of the factory harnesses. You need to know which wire is which and wire the correct wires together regardless of what color they may be. If you wired it simply by the wire colors, it most likely is not correct.
If you are lucky, it only blew the fuse for the tail/dash lamps. It is possible that you now have some serious vehicle wiring harness damage caused by the short circuit that was created.
I would disconnect the new radio and get the car fixed first. Then you need to find out which of the wires in the factory harness is for the illumination circuit and make sure that nothing is connected to it on the adapter harness. Most aftermarket radio/stereo systems do not use this circuit at all.

I took an alarm off of my 1993 honda accord. how do i reconnect my starter wires back to my ignition

When you disconnected the starter interrupt relay, you have to reconnect the two large wires(black/white stripe) on the car's ignition harness, that the relay was connected to, back together. That is your car's starter wire. I'm assuming that you're the one who removed the alarm from your car and you know what wire I'm talking about.

RADIO WON'T SHUT OFF WHEN CAR IS TURNED OFF AND KEY IS OUT OF THE IGNITION.

Is your car named Christine?

Either the radio is wired wrong - (is it possible it is wired directly to power?) or your ignition switch is allowing you to remove the key from the standby position.

No sound from radio

Check to see that the speakers are still wired to run right off the radio. If the previous owner had amps installed they may have them set up to only run through an amp.

Note:
using an optional snap on wire harness adapter will simplify the wiring. Most snap on
wire harness adapters have already converted and color coded the wires from the auto
makers in dash wire harness to match typical aftermarket radio wire colors.
** The wire colors listed in the chart above are typical for these vehicles during these years
but may not be the exact colors for this vehicle. This is another reason to use a snap on
wire harness adapter. **
