You may find that the circulating pump is need to clean and maybe there is jambed
    some of the pumps
have a large screw on the face that can be removed (whilst furnace is
off and cold) allowing a little oil to escape and showing a slot /
alen key hole for you to rotate the pump shaft and free it i am not
sure if this facility is provided on us circulators. if not GENTLE
tapping whilst on may free the circulator.

also ensure that there is in fact oil in the system.

Taco 007 circulating pump stays on even though boiler shuts down

Don't know your specific unit, but in general, heating systems are two-stage devices:

1: Its too cold: the motorised HW/CH valve moved to the required position, and on achieving it, the circulaion pump starts and the boiler is enabled. (The circ pump may start immediately - its not usually important.) The hot water from the boiler circulates through the heat exchanger and/or radiators until the thermostat thinks its target is warm enough, whereupon it disables the boiler, stops the pump and closes/relaxes the valve(s).

2: The boiler is off while disabled. When enabled, it heats the circulating water to a 'high' temperature and seeks to keep it there. If it reaches that temperature, the boiler will cycle on and off as necessary to maintain the set 'high' temperature. (The circulation pump must run all the time the boiler is enabled.) This may be what you're noticing. Additionally, some boilers will run the circulation pump for a little while after being disabled to reduce the temperature if the water in the pipes and boiler.

Your question doesn't say how the pump running corresponds to thee thermostat settings, but if it were stuck on, I think you'd know!

I have a riello burner 40 it will fire and come to temp but wont refire, goes into lockout

My first guess would be that it sounds like a clogged oil filter, air in your fuel line, is piping overhead, or leak in a fitting or connection causing it to loose it's prime when running.

I have also seen primary controls that are faulty do this, watching the complete cycle of the run time will give you more clues as to when the control actually locks out. Does it lock out during the run cycle as the boiler reaches temp.? If so,check for oil line and suction issues as stated above.

If it locks out on start up after reaching boiler set temperature, if hitting reset right away burner doesn't start and lock out occurs with no motor engaging, check motor (Note: Some motors when HOT will not kick in when powered, but after they cool down naturally they start, motor shaft may also be bound up tight, replacement is necessary) if burner motor spins but does not fire, check for fuel flow to the nozzle, be sure oil is pumping to the nozzle, if it is, clean cad cell eye, and check transformer for spark, if all is good.. replace primary control.

Disclaimer:
Of course all this information is technical troubleshooting information and should be performed by a Licensed Technician, not knowing how to properly test for flame failure can cause injury, fire or worse! Consult a technician in your area if you are not proficient at oil burner repair!

Utica Boiler model # MGB100HD with a Honeywell Aquastat Relay model # Type L8148E will not operate the circular pump. THe damper works and I can hot wire the circulator pump but it won't turn on...

how did you hot wire it. did you jump the wires on the relay board or use another power source? Does the boiler burner start? Have 120 volts incoming to the relay board? You hear relay click when turning power on/off? If so bad relay, or loose wiring terminals on the board. This control has built in transformer that can burn out, that will stop the pump relay contacts from working.

Solid fuel stove linked to oilsystem with two zone

Put a temperature operated control (aquastat) on the piping of the wood stove so that if it is on, it will interupt the circuit wired to the oil burner at the X&X terminals of the boiler control. As the wood stove cools off, it will close the connection allowing the oil system to fire.

Amtrol 41 hot water maker :not working when calling for hot water, contols are on showing temp, but tank is cold.oil fired boiler is fine, the whole system is 5 yrs old.

Hi,
The problem is probably with the circulator pump or the zone valve, which ever way your water circulating from the boiler is controled.
The water needs to be moved through the boiler and the coils in the Hot water maker to heat water. If this is not happening then no water will be heated.
Check for power and then is the pump is running or the zone valve opening.
I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

Rayburn boiler runs heating system, radiators tepid

What is the temp at the boiler? there is a temp/ presure guage it should read 160-180F. If that is OK then check the circulating pump. When the thermostat is turned up you should hear a little water moving through the piping as you have adjusted the system. If you hear nithing circulating you may have a defective pump.

Good Luck, Phil
