You can do this on ur ti-83 plus by putting the number 2. Then Pressing the yellow 2nd button on the top left and then pressing on the left column the black key that has the yellow square root sign on top. (the x^2 key).
The square root will show up and then you just put 5 and enter.

This is equal to 4.47

How do you do you put square roots into its simplest radical form? Because I can do small numbers mentally but when they are bigger I get stuck..

well,

I really don't like to tell this to you but the Ti-84 plus will not display a square root as an answer, it will always return answers in decimal form. The best way for you to simplify roots is by using a factor tree and knowing your squares up to 30. I went through all of that using a ti-83 plus so I completely understand your desire for it to show a root, it just won't. I really wish you the best with this problem, but having read the owners manual for it, I just don't see any other way to do it.

How do a take a division problem and square root it on a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition for example 87.34/5 then square root the answer. I can do the math, but how do I take the dvision answer and square...

Two ways:

2ND [square-root] ( 8 7 . 3 4 / 5 ) ENTER

8 7 . 3 4 / 5 ENTER then 2ND [square-root] 2ND ANS ENTER

The first sequence takes the square root of 87.34/5, the second sequence calculates 87.34/5 then takes the square root of the result.
