Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My Sager NP9860S was working fine and all of a sudden shut off. There are no lights on at all on it. The external power supply led is dim and blinking. When I unplug it from the laptop, the led is on bright and solid. I measured the output at its correct 20V. I removed the battery and tried it again with the same result. It sounds like an internal short in the computer itself to me. Any ideas?

Where you having any issues before this happened?have you tested the memory, checked ram seated correctly, hard drive, cables all properly fitted?

remove the battery from the pc and the power cord.
then press the start button for one minute to discharge all electricity from the motherboard.
then put the ac cord back in and wait 10 seconds.then press the start button.you may have a faulty battery so try the ac cord procedure first.

i also understand this is a gaming machine.check your video card!

How can I fix Toughbook

If you screen was dimming on your Toughbook, then try to
attach an external VGA monitor when the Toughbook is
turned off, then power on the external monitor,
then power-on the external screen.

If the external screen works, then you may have a bad
inverter if you TB is 2007 or before.

If the TB is 2008 or 2009 or later, then probably your screen
is NOT LCD with an inverter but instead LED. Which means
that you have to replace the entire LED screen.

Good Luck!

I have a Compaq presario cq60. when i turn it on the screen is very dim. can c it with flashlight. works fine just very dim. hooked it up to external monitor it works perfectly. what is the problem he

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

Display is dim

Hello Friends! This dimming vacuum display is either caused by a power supply failure with the control board, or a the filaments of the display themselves have started to wear-- similar to that of a bad light bulb. Either way, FixYourBoard.com can solve this problem. Contact them 512-355-1108 for more information. The photo below is from a double oven, but we repair single oven displays too.

!!!no reaction on plugging the ac adaptor.!!!

Sound like the LCD screen's inverter is causing an short/overload and the power adapter is shutting down (thermal cutout).
Remove the LCD screen and connect an external monitor, power up the external monitor first and the boot up the laptop. The video should automatically on the external monitor. If the display on the external monitor is OK then the fault could be the inverter which is located at the bottom of the LCD screen between the hinges.
LCD screens and Inverters for your laptop maybe available from this WEB site.www.lcdparts.net

Dim green light on power supply blinking

If the Power supply LED dims and flickers its either your motherboard circuit has been cut or there is a short in the laptop. The AC adapter is not the cause.

Try this:
Remove the battery, then press power button to drain all the current, then re-install battery and plug to adapter.

If that doesn't work, then it's most likely the motherboard.

Display light is dim

Hello, If you display light is dim, could be 2 reasons. 1. the Lamp(s) on the display or the Inverter (the unde supplying power to the monitor). It´s hard to determine from here without physical inspection. What you can do (because you have to either replace the whole screen or these components- not an easy task for the regular user) is connect an external monitor and press FN + F4 (twice) while you get a replacement.
If you really want to replace it yourself, just go to Ebay to get the parts and youtube on How to´s, but again I do not recommend this. This has to be performed by a professional.
I hope this helps.

Screen going black, green LED staying on

Check to see if the image is Dimmed. Chances are the power supply on the FPD is either dead or not supplying power to the back lights.
Your problem is the power supply or the inverter on your board, you can replace it and it will be fixed.
Easy Fix REALLY EASY FIX
(inverter is what supplies power to your backlights. A lot of the times the reason a monitor goes black and the green power button is on, is because the backlights shut off. in most designs of the 1730 the inverter is embedded on the power supply. That is most often the case on this problem. Power supply/Inverter=Replace it and you will have a spanking new looking nice monitor working again. :)
