Belt, Water Pump

Although few dishwashers have a water pump belt, if the dishwasher won't drain there might be a worn or broken water pump belt. After removing the lower kick panel the motor can be seen in the front, the water pump belt is on the bottom of the motor.

Drain Impeller

The drain impeller is attached to the pump and pushes the water out of the dishwasher, through the drain tube and into the garbage disposer or drain line. If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain impeller might be broken or worn out. Replace both the impeller and seal at the same time.

Pump and Motor Assembly

If the dishwasher won't drain, the pump and motor assembly might be defective. If the motor runs during the drain cycle, check for a blockage in the drain line. If the motor won't run during the drain cycle or if it just hums when it should be running, the pump and motor assembly might need to be replaced.

Clogged or Improperly Installed Garbage Disposer

If the dishwasher won't drain and the garbage disposer was installed recently, the installer might have forgotten to knock out the drain plug from this disposer. All garbage disposers are sold with a solid plug in the drain tube for situations where a dishwasher isn't connected. However, if the dishwasher is connected, the plug will need to be removed. If the disposer wasn't replaced recently, remove the dishwasher drain hose from the disposer and clean out both the fitting on the disposer and the end of the drain hose. These are the most common places to find an obstruction if the dishwasher won't drain.

Drain Hose

If the dishwasher won't drain the drain hose might be clogged. Remove the drain hose from both the dishwasher and the sink drain to clean it out. The most common place for an obstruction is at the garbage disposer.

Check Valve

If the dishwasher won't drain the check valve might be stuck closed. The check valve is a device which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the valve gets stuck closed, it will prevent the water from draining. The check valve is located in or at the outlet of the pump that the drain hose attaches to. Sometimes the check valve is accessed from the inside of the unit depending on the model.

Check Ball

If the dishwasher won't drain the check ball might be stuck. The check ball is a small plastic ball in the check valve which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the ball gets stuck, it will prevent the water from draining also. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.

Cant find drain button

There usually isn\'t a drain button, when the washer is done it drains the water, either you have a clog in the bottom, in the hose, or the drain pump is bad or blocked.
Read your manual to see how to check bottom screen and clean it.
If you need more help, make a new post with the make and model number, make sure you post the full and correct model number.

Water Laying in bottom of dishwasher

Usually there must be a filter screen in the dishwasher which can cause this to happen. It goes to the drain . If there is accumulation of food particles in the dishwasher filter screen then draining may be obstructed which can cause the water to be stranded at the bottom.

To exactly tell you where the filter is locate and how to clean it please specify the brand and model number of your dishwasher.Usually the filter is located at the back of the dishwasher near the drain. It is usually held in position by means of clips. You can just pop it out.Pour some hot water in the drain and clean the drain line also.

Water not draining in bottom of dishwasher

it might help to know the full model number of the dishwasher.

if the drain motor can be heard at the end of cycle and yet no water is draining out, then there could be a blocked drain hose or kitchen sink.

if you cannot hear the drain motor operating then it is a likely blockage or fault in the drain pump/ motor.

Water is staying in the bottom

Water staying in bottom is not a problem unless the dishwasher base is full of it and covers the wash arm.

This means the drain cycle is not working or dishwasher is shutting off before drain cycle.

Try to clean the filters at the base and check drain in kitchen sink side is clear.

Need the model number in case you want more specific instructions.

Drain cycles don't end even after the fill cycles start.

This is one problem I researched for GE dishwashers and however..it appears to be a universal problem with lots of brands...The float get stuck in one position or the other...you can see it inside the DW...(round like a half round ball....pull it out see if it is gunked up and clean it out replace it and make sure it moves up and down freely...all the while you should here a clicking noise. Anyway here is what I also found...similar or exactly the same as I said but with some extra info that may suit your model.....

The issue was a full overflow trap which pushes up a toilet-style float and trips a small switch. This effectively freezes the dishwasher in "drain" cycle and for whatever reason puts the panel on Heated Dry. Caused by too much soap or accidental or accumulated inclusion of regular or hand soap (from dishes w/ soap in them in the sink).

Taking off the toe kick and removing a couple panels under the dishwasher lets you barely see the tiny tray that is the culprit, and you can sneak paper towels into one edge of it to dry it out and return it to service.

Hopr this helps...good luck and good day...thank yopu for rating my effort.....The Fang.
