Pioneer PD-f908 skips on certain CDs and when I turn volume more than 1/3. Have already tried cleaning CD and manual cleaning. Cleaned with q-tips and alcohol, then blew with canned air to be sure no q-tip...

You should ponder what, if anything, the volume might have to do with CD tracking. If room- or air-borne vibrations are reaching the player its normal tracking abilities may be overcome.

I have a Panasonic pll multiplex circuit and when I put a record on it skips a lot. I have another record player at my other house and it has an adjustable weight on it, and I am thinking that that's...

Most likely needs a new needle. Try needlelady.com or needledoctor.com Modern record players usually track at 2 to 4 grams of pressure. Thats about as much as a penny weighs maybe. Putting more pressure on it, will only cause it to destroy your records or sound bad. Weight adjustment is usually a very fine spring or counterweight that adjusts on the tonearm. Linear units use optical sensors to keep the tonearm aligned, but use traditional counterweights to control force. You need a gram scale made for phonos to properly adjust it. Radioshack USED to sell them 30 years ago, but most times you can just use a guess if the needle only slightly deflects when placed onm the record your usually good. If it's simply jumping and sliding across the record then the needle is shot. Even diamonds don't last forever,. as they are synthetically produced.

Its time to replace the optical unit ( lens ) of the CD player. Brace yourself the unit on some of those old players can cost more than a new DVD player.

I have purchased two ARK IV white elliptical Stylus replacement needles for my turntable and I am not getting the life out of these items, despite very limited play time. Seems like they just wear down...

What's the turntable? Skipping across the record would be a (mal)function of tracking and anti-skating. The recommended tracking force for this stylus os 3.0 grams. I've been out of the vinyl groove for some years now but I remember my Shure M95 tracking in the range of 1-1.5 g. Railroad spikes track at 3.0. Is this for 'scratching' or whatever it is they call that noise?

My kenwood D R350 CD player keeps skipping on some but not all tracks. I have tried to CD cleaner but this didnt work, what can you advise

The problem is in the laser pickup assembly, overtime the laser becomes weaker until it can not track properly resulting in skipping and eventually not been able to read the disc. My next step would be to get a CD cleaning kit which you have already done. The only option is replace the assembly which is not cost effective, but far cheaper to buy a new CD player.

SHERWOOD CDC-2000C ?D6376 starts skipping it was sent to be repair played about 2 discs when I got it back and started skipping again

Unfortunately the laser pickup assembly needs to be replaced, overtime the laser becomes weaker until it can not track properly and will end up skipping or won't read the disc. It is far cheaper to replace the CD player than have the assembly replaced.

When "cold", my Phillips cdc935 skips on the first track, only, of many of my cds. After warming up that is no longer a problem and successive cds, including the first one played, do not skip.

Hi,
Open CDC-935 player and clean sled section (that moves optical lens left-right) as it seems dusty and causing skipping of cd tracks.

Hit "add a comment" button for further query / info.
Thanks.

Cd track skidding

This can be the first sign that the optics are starting to fail. It can also indicate dirty optics. Try opening up the unit and cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Also, with a dry cotton swab, clean off the "sled rails". These are the shiny rods that the optic assembly rides on. Sometimes the grease on these rails can collect dirt and cause the movement of the optics assembly to be erratic. Let us know how you make out.
