Do I really need to replace the whole oven thermostat on my Viking if only the knob shaft broke off?

I would follow his recommendation. If it is not repaired correctly you will have temperature problems and it will hold the know in the right position.

Thermador dual fuel oven temperature not accurate and the dials dont match temperature

Faulty thermostat it's the thin copper shaft in the oven that has a skinny tube running from it if you remove the oven knob you will find it goes back to the switch. Needs replacing.

Oven is not holding correct temp

Hi,

Electronic ovens with a digital display use a sensor to monitor oven temperature. To solve temperature problems for these models, you need to replace the sensor. On some digital-display models, you can calibrate the temperature using the key pad. See your operator's manual for details.

Ovens without a digital display often use a mechanical system for controlling temperature. On many of these units, you can remove the thermostat knob and adjust the knob itself to more accurately represent the actual setting of the thermostat.

When you remove the knob, there's a screw on the back of it with a small calibration plate, you can loosen the screw, adjust the plate, and then tighten the screw again. If the knob isn't adjustable, and the oven temperature is off by more than 30 to 40 degrees, you need to replace the thermostat to solve the problem.

Let us know if you want something else please accept the solution.

ok put a pan of water in your oven with a cooking thermometer in it. Turn your oven with the new knob you just got from repair shop. They are in the yellow pages Lots of laid of repair guys went out on there own. So they work at a lower price. As i was telling you.set your new knob @ 9:00 leave it there long enough to even out 10 minutes will do. next set it @10:00 next 11:00 @12:00 and so on. Till you get all your settings are compleat. It takes too long for the oven to reach the desired temperature.

Here are two instances of when food "bakes poorly:"

  • When the item takes far too long to finish, you probably have a weak bake igniter. Often, you need to replace the igniter, but you may want to troubleshoot the oven's electrical system further to more precisely locate the defect.

  • When the temperature is consistent but too high or too low, the oven thermostat or sensor is either mis-calibrated or defective. If your oven uses an electronic temperature-regulating device, you may have an electric sensor in the oven instead of a mechanical thermostat. If the oven temperature is off by 30 to 40 degrees in this type of unit, you must replace the sensor.

If, when you remove the knob, there's a screw on the back of it with a small calibration plate, you can loosen the screw, adjust the plate, then tighten the screw again. Slow heating

  • When the temperature is consistent but too high or too low, it could be one of several different things. First check to see if the thermostat sensing bulb has come loose from its holder. It could be lying on the floor of the oven or resting on the heating element. This would cause the oven to not heat correctly.

  • If the thermostat bulb is not dislodged, it's likely that the thermostat or sensor is either mis-calibrated or defective.

Temperature Control Knob Replace

If there is no visible screw hole the knob should just pull off. If it is an oven thermostat, they can sometimes be hard to pull off.

Oven Temperature Sensor

it's just not just the sensor ,it's the thermostat which is on the back of oven knob. that sensor is part of the thermostat it's all one of the same part. to check the temperature put a thermometer inside the oven and set the the oven knob at 200 degrees. 20 minutes later check and see what temperature it's inside the oven, to regulate the temperature many of the new ovens are set from the factory, It can not be calibrate, on the older ones the adjustment screw is inside the shaft when you take the oven knob of, it's inside the shaft.

Westinghouse self cleaning oven manual or owners manual

Many White-Westinghouse manuals can be found here: http://www.frigidaire.com/support/manuals.asp I had the same problem and was able to solve it. They didn't have the exact manual for mine (a KF450G), but they had one that was similar enough (KF580H) to solve this issue. Setting the knobs to clean is only part of the process, to get it to run you need to set the timer. Read the key information below transcribed from the manual: --- To set the controls for the cleaning cycle: 1) Close the oven door. 2) Be sure the clock shows the correct time of day. 3) Be sure the Start Time knob is set for the same time as the clock. If not, turn the knob to the time on the clock. The knob will then pop out. 4) Push in and set the Stop Time knob for 2 to 3 hours past the Start Time. Example: If the Start Time and Clock read 1:00, set the Stop Time for 3:00 or 4:00. 5) Turn the Temperature Control to CLEAN. 6) Turn the Selector to CLEAN. If all controls are set correctly, the oven signal light will come on and stay on until the oven reaches its cleaning temperature. It will then cycle on and off. --- There is more information in the manual, but it's much too much information to manually transcribe - I've only typed enough for you to get it working. Note that the LOCKED light won't light initially, it only lights once the oven exceeds 550 degrees. Once that light is on, the oven will not reopen until the temperature drops below that point, even if you stop the clean cycle. Be sure to empty out the storage drawer under the oven before cleaning.
